Me texting my child: "Sometimes I have these 'OMFG WTF did they do to me' moments. I am afraid the edema is going to choke me in my sleep and that I will have demented elf hair forever. I can't tell anyone because I will cry. And I really have nothing to cry about."
My wise child texting back: "And then you remember that it saved your life. They melted your cells to within an inch of plasma and they burnt your hair follicles all up. But then you remember that you're healing and that your hair is growing back and it is thicker. And you remember to calm down because compared to the mucous face you were before, breathing is a snap. Of course you cry; not from sadness, but from shock and pride that you went through hell and simply walked right out the other side."
She's a pretty smart kid.

Pretty Smart in My Book
What a proud Mommy moment. Glad you've got such a gift to support you.
On the other hand - I think it's great that you can be upset by "trivial" things like unruly hair. I am, too. It shows me that we must be doing well - to not be so overwhelmed by "real" issues that we do not even notice the trivial ones. Give your kid a hair muss for me.0 -
Just what I needed
Wow! Thanks for sharing this Deb. This is just what I needed to hear today. Please give your daughter a big hug from me. She is a very wise young woman!
Have you gone to P/T for your edema? I am dealing with the same thing and my oncologist just initiated a referral for some massage with P/T. Hang in there. This too shall pass (I think).

We often say here in Sonoma County, home of the Live Oak, that the acorn does not fall far from the oak. Your kid is that way because she had you for a mom. Well done.
Best,

Congratulations
Good job with your daughter, Deb. You must be very proud.
On another note, I, too, seem to have elf hair and I haven't even had cancer treatment...
Hugs!0 -

Deb,
I am almost in tears reading your post. Both you and your daughter have such a wonderful way of capturing in words things so accurately and eloquently. This quote is a keeper.
Thanks for sharing.
