Nutrition for people who have been NED for some time and want to prevent recurrence?
I guess the subject says it all.My fiance has been NED for the past 6 years[Was diagnosed with stage II colorectal cancer and has a permanent colostomy, had also taken chemo and radiation during treatment] and follows a good diet and exercise regime. He is 28 and we are looking at a really long life together.I have read a lot about vegetarians not getting enough Vit D,B and omega 3 fatty acids.I know that these help a lot in preventing recurrence and just wanted to know what all of you are doing to make sure that you get adequate levels?Should we take supplements? Thanks

Also daily low dose aspirin can prevent polyp formation/growth, but ask your doc if it is safe for u first... Petrina0 -
Sweta:
Congrats and welcome back. Whatever you are doing seems to be working. My hubby is Stage IV in active treatment so no supplements for us, yet.
Check with a Naturalpath. They will be able to point you in the right direction with supplements for your particular situation.
Lots of people on the board take supplements to help prevent recurrence. I'm sure they will be on to help.

Thanks for the info Petrina. We have added ground flax seed to our diet.About the Vit D capsules we are not too sure about what to do.Could you let us know the name of the brand you are using?I am not too sure of what would be safe for us to use. Thanks so much again:)0 -

Glad to hear from yu Tina.So far I guess it's just been luck..we have actively started following a healthy diet plan for the last couple of years. He did not want to accept the major life change that it involved before that..it was a complete shock to be diagnosed with it when no one in his family has ever had any form of cancer before, and that too at 22.He has come to terms with it now and we can actively do something to make sure we try our best to rule out any possible chances of recurrence.I am looking forward to hearing from the others and get any insight into what we should do.Hope the treatment works wonders and your husband gets to be NED soon.Take care.0 -
Life Extension
I recommend contacting Life Extension. They are a supplement research company. They have Doctors on staff who will talk to you specifically regarding colon cancer supplements then they will email you articles and research behind what they recommend. Health advisor number is 800-226-2370. They have a web site too. lifeextension.com I think :~)
