Egg Drop Soup

I mentioned to my nurse about the typical problem we all have with mucus. She suggested eating a bowl of egg drop soup. You get protein, fluids, etc.. and it helps to thin out the mucus. Long story short, I tried it and it works! It kept my mucus thin enough to be tolerable for a few hours, which was a nice respite from swish and spit baking soda and salt.

She also suggested papaya nectar, which I haven't tried yet, but thought I would mention as well.

9 more days to go!

Egg Drop Soup was the first
Egg Drop Soup was the first thing I ate without using my Peg Tube after radiation. For some reason it tasted like bacon. Not that that's a bad thing.

    Egg Drop Soup Fan
I never liked egg drop soup (greasy) before, but gave it another try one day when I was out with sore mouth and hungry. YUM! Funny thing is, I've tried it at a few places now, and my favorite is still the little, generic mall food court soup I had when I was in treatment.

    Haven't had it in years
I always liked egg drop soup, and I don't know why I didn't think of it as I was coming out of the whole treatment ordeal. I did eat a fair amount of chicken soup, though.
In my neck of the woods we eat a lot of chicken and dumplings. No, they're not the Pennsylvania Dutch dumplings, big round globs of starch that I don't really care for. (Sorry, Keystone Staters.)
'Round here we eat slippery dumplings, which are sort of like very wide noodles. Anyway, it's one of the foods I grew up on and a great comfort food for me. I got my wife to make me some when I was just starting to swallow solid food again, and they slid down really well. It was a great thrill to have them -- and I haven't lost my taste for them.

    Good soup
Egg Drop Soup was the first thing Glenn asked me to get for him after his treatment was over. It went down smooth and led to eating other foods.

I guess you could say Egg Drop Soup is a "gateway" food.

    Soup!
A beaten egg sure went along way! My mom would make me homemade stock when I was recovering
& I would add a beaten egg when heating it up. Easy to go down & kept me going when nothing else worked!

    Well....
Mine came out more like scrambled egg soup. Lol. I cooked some pastina separate and put that in at the end. Hey, it tastes ok. As much as I can taste. Doesn't burn my tongue and I can swallow it. Works for me. :) kinda good at the end of a chilly gloomy day. Feels so late and it's only 6:15. Booo!

    My husband's been eating
My husband's been eating that too! He said it really works and makes him feel better.. Sounds gross to me, but if it makes him feel better and makes him want to eat, heck, I'd cook anything for him.

    menu for tomorrow
I know what's on the menu for tomorrow. Anything to try to control this mucus thickening.

Thank you for the thought and if you come up with anything else I would love to hear about it.

    egg drop soup
I had never eaten egg drop soup before. My wife brought home a bowl from a Chinese restaurant and though I was skeptical about eating it, I gave it a try. This stuff was great. I could easily swallow it (I have severe swallowing problems) and the taste was very good. This is probably one of the things that has tasted the best since my treatment. My wife has never made this before but is a excellent cook. Does anyone have a good recipe for it? I keep getting wonderful advice from this web site. It has been a blessing to me as many things I have read on here has helped my tremendously both mentally and physically and never to leave out spirtually. I encourage everyone that has or is suffering from this horrible cancer to keep up the fight and put their trust in God. God Bless you all

I tried it and it didn't
I tried it and it didn't come out right. I got my recipes off of the internet off allrecipes. My father has actually made really good egg drop soup. I will try and get the recipe from him next time I go up.

I got some a couple weeks ago from our closest chinese place and although I could swallow it okay, it was too salty for me.
