Update on Jim

About 8 pm started running high fever, 104.2. got it down, gave him Tylenol and ice packs in bad places and he did fine all night. Sat am ran another fever of 102.5. Same thing but took more blood for cultures and added a broad spectrum antibiotic.. watched football, but by 7 pm was not responsive and when they took internal temp it was 105.2. They RUSHED him to ICU, gave more Tylenol and put him on the cold blanket. Temp came down within about an hour to 104, then gradually down to acceptable. Keeps going up and down a little, so he's still in ICU and they turn the cold blanket on when needed..
Finally, today, we have an answer, sort of. Staph infection caused by Gram Positive Cocci aerobic. No definitive answer as to where infection is located, but might be left lung or in his MediPort.
He's still fighting; his breathing sounds very harsh to me. Dr says most congestion is in his throat, not his lungs.
He's incredibly determined. Back pain is better, I'm staying with him almost 24/7, but have a little relief for a few hours today so I'm napping and doing laundry!
We welcome all prayers.
Sally

Problems are present. The pulmonologist believed the congestion is
aspirationsl pneumonia from something he aspirated, food, meds etc
He is having nebulizer treatments every 4 hrs that are helping but may
need more help.

Prayers coming your way
Sally,
So sorry to hear of Jim’s infection. My surgical incisions became infected when I was in the hospital so I know the frustration. It sounds like they have the culprit isolated so that should help them prescribe the right treatment.
You and Jim continue to be in my prayers daily.
Best Regards,

Hello my dear friends Sally and Jim
Oh my...another bump in your road with this journey of cancer. Come on Jim, hang tough, you are the Timex watch...takes a licking and keeps on ticking remember? The dreaded staph infection. This is so common in a lot of hospitals. Unfortunately. Hand washing once again is so very important. The aspiration reminds me of another csn member. Someone's dad. Maybe I am thinking of Erica. Dear Heavenly Father once again we ask you to wrap your loving arms around Jim and Sally. Give them the strength they need to continue on fighting and beating this cancer. Grant them the peace they both need to face this most difficult situation. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen. Stay in touch when you can. Thoughts and prayers are with you both daily.
Love
