Hi Everybody:

Haven't been on in awhile but so happy to read everybody's still pulling strong. God is good! I have a question: I am getting my first colonscopy tomm afternoon since last May when I was first diagnosed and had surgery I'm afraid he is going to mess things up inside that have healed. I don't want him to disturb anything. I'm afraid once I start going to the bathroom I'm not going to stop or once I begin the prep I'm going to get bad cramping. I'm afraid something is going to go wrong like bleeding or whatever. Any advise. Thanks everybody! Hugs.

I had my second colonoscopy just 4 months after surgery and
no problems with it, don't worry everything is gonna be OK, just enjoy sedation!.
    LOL.

    Will be ok
I agree with the group - things will go fine.

They are careful and your pipes are plenty big for the scope to travel.

And you know the prep is designed to make you go, so you will as you know, but it will slack off at the end and then you can go to bed.

Tomorrow, it will be all over and then you can feed the "hungries."

Good luck and I hope it is all clear for you.

    Colonoscopy
Don't worry you will be fine. Just had mine in June and it was fine, never had any bleeding or anything. Things will be good for you. The sedation never, never works for me, so I'm always awake for this stuff. Guess my body is so nervous and tense then the drugs just counteract it. Oh well. Good luck and keep us posted.

    Hey Kim
Normally they give Versed and Fentanyl - if an anesthesist is in the room with you, they usually give you Prophopyl, which is the big drug they give you when you do an operation.

I've done scopes with the local sedation like the Versed and Fentanyl...

...and I've had scopes that were treated as an operation.

This last one I got, they eliminated the Versed and Fentanyl and did the Prophopyl and it "caught me" and made me lay my head down to sleep.

Just a heads up if you ever want to go another out - that stuff will make you sleep, guaranteed:)

    You'll do fine!
I just had my first colonoscopy last week after having surgery in March. I, too, was worried about my resection, but the doc was very careful and everything went well. You will be fine too and you'll feel great after it is all over.

    Nothing to worry about....but
next time try and get it scheduled as early as possible even if you have to change days. Try and be the first one in the morning, that way you won't be starving before you get it done and early in the morning you won't have to go near as long wanting something to drink or eat..........other than that you will be fine as frog hair.......Buzz

    I can relate
I'm sure you will be fine, but I can relate to the nervousness and general "ugg" feeling. They're just no fun! As you know, though, we have to have these to be sure.

    Wow
Didn't realize that. When getting my last colonscopy in June they were aware that this "normal twilight" drug didn't work for me, they still gave me the same stuff anyway. I'll make sure that when my next scope comes up I'll seek what you say and I'll remember to ask you. Just can't stand when they are aware that the stuff they give me doesn't work and they continue to give it to me anyway. You are a dear for this info. Thanks and big Hugs!

    Hi!
Thanks everybody for the inspiration. I did It - I felt really nervous like I never did it before - it was really strange. I guess so much happened all at once I really was just going with the motions or sleeping. The thought of having to start over with all I've went through this past year is draining. I don't know how I will do it if I need to go through it again. I'm trying not to think about it. I give those who have so much credit for their courage. What great stamina you all have. May God keep you all in his every detail. I'll handle it if I have to - i guess. Now the grin and bear it news from the pathologist in a few days - does anyone know what a patent end to end colo-colonic anastomosis is? He has it on my report and I was still half asleep when I left and didn't ask him. Thanks I love you all.

    end to end colo-colonic anastomosis
During a colon resection, the diseased part of the bowel is removed and the two healthy sections of the colon are reattached. This is called an end-to-end anastomosis.

    Thanks Craig but
You are so helpful - Thanks. He doesn't say what he did it only says end to end..... Does that mean he only looked at it. There isn't anything about biopies on the report but it says wait for path report. Do you think he took a scrape from this area.
