Hi everyone, I just got home from 4 days in SF where I started the new clinical trial. It was a long 4 days at time, and yet we were able to do some relaxing walks too! I can't say enough about how pleasant the research teams are at UCSF. The trial consists of a dose of pills each day. I had lots of EKG's, electrocartiogram, and blood work done, over and over. I also have to check my blood sugars each day prior to taking the meds. I will go back next week to check in and the following week for another long day of testing followed by a 2nd day of blood work. It seems like a lot of to-do but, on the other hand, it's the big chance. One of the Dr. there game me this web site to check on other trials or just get info. I was amazed at the trials being done. Check it out! ClinicalTrials.gov
Thanks for your support everyone, and I will keep you posted. Jean

    Great
Just think that this is wonderful that you are able to participate in this new trial. Sounds like you have had your days filled with much to do, but all in all taking in the breaks that you get. You are in my prayers daily. Do you have diabetes? Just asking because you said that you have to have your blood sugars taken. Is there a special IV they give you instead? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to grasp your treatment. Whatever, I'm hoping the best for you and wishing you continued improvement.

You are off to a great start!
    Hi Jean,

I am so happy you have the first leg of this trial over. It does sound like a lot of work, but you are worth it. I am glad you had some time to walk around. My husband + I were in San Francisco 2 years ago + had the most amazing time. It is a beautiful city; I would love to go back. Good luck with this trial!

    Kim, no diabetes, but I
Kim, no diabetes, but I guess this drug can affect blood sugars or at least it has potential to do that. It's interesting all that they cover in starting a drug trial, however, it is a bit intimidating! I noticed with the last trial and now this one, they never hand me the meds and say it is time to take them, instead, they set them down and say you can take them if you like.....I understand that it is very much a volunteer situation, but it does give me a crazy feeling! Thanks for you encouragement. Jean

    Jean,
It sounds like they are getting a real good read on your overall health and they will have a good eye on you. I am hoping and praying that this drug is the one for you. Obviously it has shown progress and it can be the one. I am thinking of you Jean it is your time for great results.

    Blood sugar levels
Yes that is what happened to me too. Mine were so off during chemo. They would be down so low one week and way up the next. Don't like the situation that you are in that "they" make you decide if you want to take them or not. That makes me kind of nervous, maybe like they should say "you should take it." Guess because you are on trial it is your call but still that would make me so nervous. Geez what do you do? My heart goes out to you and thank you for doing a trial as this will lead others to a better future. God Bless.

    Hugs! Kim
