Leaking from the new connection between the stomach, intestine, and/or esophagus

My father had a full gastrectomy a month ago and his new connection between the esophagus and stomach is leaking. The doctors suggested opening him up again and inserting some plastic to help keep things together. Is there anyone out there with experience with this type of post-op complication? I am desperate! I can't find anything useful on the net, so if there is anyone who can help me explain this, please!
