Is this the IP chemo? I
Is this the IP chemo? I know it can be very rough. The Opium is not a reach, really, as any kind of morphine-based pain meds cause constipation and morphine is an opiate.0 -

No, IP Chemo is chemo that is given thru a stomach port, rather than an IV in the arm, or a port in the chest. Sometimes it's called a "belly wash".0 -
IP, platinum, diarrhea
Sorry that Angela is having a rough time. Like Carlene said, IP means intra-peritoneal as opposed to IV which mean intra-venous. Platinum based chemos are the chemo drugs that end with platinum in their names ie carboplatinum & cisplatinum. Platinum based chemo are the standard for all ovarian cancer. I had a combination of IV and IP chemotherapy. The IP cisplatinum is VERY hard on the digestive system.
Is Angela receiving Neupogen or Neulasta for her WBC? Either way, I hope her WBC do rise. Both of these shots have a potential side effect of diarrhea. I,personally, never heard of opium being given for severe diarrhea. But again, like Carlene said, it is not far reaching. It would, in her case, have a dual purpose. It would provide pain relief and slow down peristalsis to help with the diarrhea.
How is her appetite? Her chemo is outpatient, right?
let us know how she makes out!0 -

She received shots to raise her WBC. she received five shots, but had not had her last shot, when they tested her blood. Hope it is kicking in now. I talked to her today ( which I do many times a day.) She said she felt much better yesterday and even better today. She will have her blood tested again today to see if her WBC is up. Then they will decide from there their coarse of action. She said she felt like going out for lunch and hoped Monte could fit it into his scheduale to take her.0
