Hi Guys
I just have a question to ask about NPC aka Nasopharyngeal Cancer how long do I do I have to live after this is treated? because I am asking this is because I am only 24 years old and only been married for a year and don't have any kids yet. This cancer did only spread to one lymph node on the right side of the neck and I had surgery to remove it. Will I get this cancer back? or will I get other type of cancer? I had a report from the mayo and they said that I had NPC that was Non-keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma.

    Maximum 75 years
    Tim,
You can live a normal life and expect to continue as anyone else now. As i wrote in the title, you have up to about 75 years left,

I believe you should focus on your health and well being through diet, nutrition and other lifestyle thing to keep your body strong and mind healthy. We ALL have that horribly little 'Cancer' man on our shoulder sometimes scaring the daylights out of us in exactly the way you have manifested above. Put your disease back with the chance of getting run over by a bus or hit by a train where it belongs. It will take a little time Tim but you need to think positive now and reprogram your mind to believe in health and long life.

There are ways to do this as you have programed in a lot of the negative stuff we all do when going through this ordeal. You are not alone. I personally used and still do affirmations and their affect is profound. The big one I have shared here many times (and some people will chime in to let you know if it worked for them) one I found the best and this to repeat t yourself " My Mind Is Clear, My Body is Healthy". Repeat this 1, 2, 300 times a day. the more the better.

You may go into a 'J' curve in your condition during treatment recovery, which is the hard part and it can be a long slow climb out. If you get depressed and need support, let you doctors know and let them help you through this period as it can be hard.

Our new brother Matthew should chime in soon as he was in your shoes, at you age and now - 11 years later, wife kids, the whole SHEEBANG ! (Happy birthday today for Matthew at 35)

Get positive, get through your treatments and then focus on your health 110% and make it a bigger part of your new life.

    Hi Tim

Just to second what Scam just said, you can live a normal life just like anyone, you may have a few little side affects from the treatment, so go and have your children.

I am a 8 year survivor of NPC and I know of others who are 15 years and more.

God bless you and your wife, and may you have lots of little ones.

    thanks to scam and hondo
I just wanted to say thank you to scam and hondo for giving positive feedback. I was kinda scared about this whole cancer thing but thank god for members on this forum and my family and my wifes family for support. Now its recovery time for me and I hope my PET scan comes back clean next month. Which I do believe it will come back clean and I think there might be some hot spots due to scar tissue but I will find out next month. I am also thinking about getting acupuncture done soon to see if I can recover little bit faster and get some saliva back so I can eat again.

Again thanks for the nice support I am getting from this site.

My first 5 PET scans came back dirty because sometime the old scar tissue showed up as a hot spot in the nasal area, even taking a biopsy of the area will show hot. That what I was told by my doctors at MD Anderson, my last PET a few months ago came back clean, so don’t let the hot spots worry you. One thing you need to be doing is exercising your Jaw everyday don’t let it lock up like I did, stretch it as wide as you can several times a day.

    Take care
