Told Son of BC Diagnosis

Skeezie: for some reason can't always get into private messages.

Just wrote to my Son and told him that I have been diagnosed with BC waiting for exact surgery date and possibly more tests. Told him it is treatable and beatable; thinking positive and acting proactively. Didn't know what else to say. After reading your message thought if I didn't do it now will chicken out as the process continues. Thank you, you are right, he should know.

Jean,, that's wonderful!
Better to tell him now, than to wait til you're in surgery etc. And you were positive and upbeat which is good. That's how I approached it with my family and friends. The more you say it, the more you believe it too. That approach also keeps the "sad" looks from appearing on everyone's faces.

I'm anxious to hear what the lymphodema (pre-surgery) is about. Please keep us posted about your next appt. with your surgeon and onc. As I had told you, it was 3 mo from the time I first felt the lump til my mastectomy and those three months gave me plenty of time to get used to the idea and come to grips with this whole thing. It seemed to take forever, but now a year has passed since the surgery and it's hard to believe. You'll get there too.

I told my 6 and 8 year olds at the time and they handled it beautifully.

Even the little ones rallied around me.

You did the right thing.
