Myelodysplastic Syndrome

I was diagnosed with AML in 2006 and received treatment for it and went into remission for 2 months. But while I was in remission I contracted a fungal infection (fusarium solani). It took 7 months to get this infection under control. I was then able to start my chemo-treatment again, but the doc's continued me on the fungal medicine during chemo. It is now Sep. 5 2010 and I am still in remission, but now I have a treatment related illness called MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome). I am currently temporarily disabled from the Air Force, and in the process of going to the Physical Evaluation Board, which I think is ridiculous. The Air Force is trying to discharge me with severance pay, but I feel this is very unfair. I should be entitled to a military retirement because I have more than enough proof. Does anyone out there have any helpful insight on MDS or trying to deal with being discharged this way.
