Fissures

Hi, Yes I had irritation for quite some time. As we have been shrunk and burned, and because were always using this area and its always moist, it takes longer to heal. Just keep your stool soft and watch your diet and keep the area clean. I still use a water bottle to cleanse and then pat dry. Do not rub the area as it will break down the tissue even more. I completed tx on 6-30-09, and I feel like I'm back to normal. I also drink lots of water, which acts as a natural laxitive. Lori0 -
I am 2 years post-treatment
I am 2 years post-treatment and just saw my colorectal doc on Sept. 2nd. for my 3-month follow-up. Upon examination, she told me I had what looks like a "cut" at my anus, which may explain the painful BM's and slight bleeding I have been having. I am now using a stool softener, as hard BM's are what caused this, I believe. I would recommend trying a stool softener and drinking lots of water. Since you are only about 10 weeks out, this could just be normal radiation damage too. Either way, keeping your stools soft is key to having more comfortable BM's.0 -
fissure
i have a fissure and its is painful at times..depends on the day .My doctor said they never go away..He can not operate because its too close to spincter muscle.Surgery would cause more problems.Drink lots of water..helps from getting constipated which makes it worse.By the way..I am 2yrs..post treatment..and NED..hugs...alyse0 -
bottom problems
The suggestion about not rubbing is extremely important in my view. And I use a fiber supplement (sugar free Citrucel) all the time to try to avoid hard stools... at 2 3/4 years hard stools are a significant problem so I try to avoid constipation. Drinking lots of water is always important. (It can even become your favorite beverage!)
If I for any reason rub to hard when wiping, I tend to bleed. The skin there is just very fragile. Now, I am in my mid-sixties so maybe you young folk have less problem!

I appreciate your replies, I am new here, and I really like this network, I knew these support goups existed, but didn't have the courage to look. I am normally very positive and got though the treatment fairly good, but I am getting impatient with this. Every now and then, I get concerned and wish I was back to normal, even though I am so greatful the tumor is gone and the PetScan came back totally clean. Last week was my first full week back to work.0 -
