Warning for women--not cancer related, though

My 59 year old SIL had a massive heart attack last Sunday and died. Never smoked, perfect body weight. She was a gastro RN and probably neglected herself there. Her son said she had terrible acid reflux for a month and was taking an over the counter med for it.

Her son is a pharm rep and said that heavy month-long acid reflux in women was a future HA warning, and of course she told him she was taking care of it, but wasn't.

I'm just so upset that this could probably have been prevented.

Now, I know with all the chemo & stuff acid reflux happens, but this isn't what I am warning about cause it's just a temp side effect.

    after gaining 80 pounds during menopause and quitting a bad smoking habit I started to have Gurd/acid reflux. My dr put me on OTC prescription strength Prilosec. I used it until last summer when a Naturapathic dr told me that over years it affects other organs in your body and can aggravate the esophagus. I do get mild acid reflux for a day or 2 after chemo but I sleep with my head elevated and eat smaller meals. Nothing to fool around with. I'm so sorry about your sister-in-law. Tragic how things happen especially to someone who probably thought she knew what she was treating. Who would have thought a heart attack was possible. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

    Sorry for your loss. Thanks for the warning. Did you also know that with women, it could be jaw pain as well. We are very different from the guys.

    Sorry for your sister-in-law. Thank you for sharing this story. My girlfriend who is 48 had a heart attack 5 weeks ago. Fortunately her husband took her to the hospital, she had emergency surgery and doing well. Heart attack is rarely recognized in women because it do not have symptoms.Please be aware everyone.
