Anyone Taxol resistant? This might be of interest....

The UK's Telegraph (8/17, Adams) reported, "At present the chemotherapy drug
paclitaxel, also known by its brand names Paxol and Abraxane, is often
prescribed to shrink ovarian tumors by stopping cancer cells dividing," but
"some ovarian cancers are resistant to such drugs, known as taxanes." Now,
researchers "believe they have opened up a new route after identifying a key
protein." According to the paper in Cancer Cell, the investigators discovered
"that cells struggled to divide when they interfered with a gene known as SIK2,
which produces the protein," and "by blocking the protein, they found that
ovarian cancer cells became more sensitive to paclitaxel."

    Thank you for spotting that in a UK newspaper. Its certainly good news for anyone who is resistant to taxol. I will keep my eyes peeled for further reports & post them if I find them.
