How do I handle reflux or nausea without wishing I were dead????

I could handle incisional pain, childbirth, burns, almost any kind of pain but I cannot handle nausea! I've lost 20 pounds and am now a size 0 so hydrating & eating are about my very survival and the nausea makes it impossible to put anything in my mouth. My Ivor Lewis at Mayo Clinic was almost three months ago & I've been in the hospital for complications the whole time up until two weeks ago. My feeding tube was removed just a week ago and now I'm on my own to eat/drink enough to survive. I live alone but feel like I need a mother.
How do I eat when I've no appetite??
How do I drink when I have no thirst??
How can I escape when nausea grips me??

You should not be alone
Am sorry to hear you are having such problems. Husband had Ivor Lewis in April. Many bouts of nausea, dumping, no appetite, etc. He is just now getting some enjoyment from some foods. He lost close to 70 pounds. I've read this site repeatedly. Many helpful posts. It does take time to recover. Much, much time. My husband says that if I had not monitored his medicines and almost forced food frequently, he would not have started his improvement. He still has difficulty getting in enough liquids.
I am surprised you were released without home health or some other support agency. You should contact your oncologists/surgeon and let them know your problems. They should have a knowledgeable nutritionist available to advise you. Further, you should look into to agency, family, church support. It is rough, BUT it does get better. Hang in there! I'm sure you will hear from others on this site who have informed suggestions.
I keep a log of all medicines taken. I did keep a food log. Timing of medicines, food and liquid contribute to improved digestion. Hope you get to feeling better.0
