Softballmom of 2 .. that certainly is a hard blow to
get your arms around. I know what you mean about being there, done that. Not to mention our hair and general health.
Take it 1 day at a time, and I would insist on the ultra sound .. today! Your body ...why wait. Information is needed promptly -

Yes, many times
I originally had a unilateral mastectomy. My mammograms were always a time of great anxiety as the radiologists (rightfully so) didn't want to miss anything soooo they seemed to always be double checking with ultrasounds, etc. The good news is that they never found anything!
Because 2 of my sisters also then were diagnosed, I had the 2nd breast removed many years after the first mastectomy (preventively--I never did have cancer in the 2nd).
Hope this helps!0 -
SoftBallMom2, I understand
SoftBallMom2, I understand all too well what you are going through. I just had my first mammo and ultrasound after completing treatments and my cancer is back in the same breast. I had a lumpectomy the first go-round. I have a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction scheduled for next Wednesday, August 4th. I have too many things left to do in my lifetime to throw in the towel. I am back in fighting mode and ready to take on the beast in Round 2. I won't know until all is said and done whether or not I will have to do chemo again. If I do, I'll do it. I, too, just got my hair back after completing chemo last October. Just take it one day at a time. Perhaps the lump is NOT cancer and turns out to be benign. I'll be sending positive thoughts for that to be the case. If not, we'll join forces, along with a couple of our other warrior sisters, and go back into battle. We can do it!!!0 -

I had numerous biopsies after my first diagnosis that were benign. Until 16 years later when it wasnt. Many lumps are not cancer but having been bitten once... hoping its not cancer. its very possible.0 -
I can only imagine
how frightened you must be.
As others have said, there's still a good chance that it's benign, but of course you'll want to have it checked, and the waiting SUCKS!!!
You have a strong support system here, and we will all be holding your hand on Friday, and beyond if needed.
Take care,

Hi
I went through a similar scare about a month ago, I finished chemo last november after bilateral mastectomy, chemo, and recon.. I was terrified beyond words, I'm still getting over it, anyway, I'v never been so happy as when my onco said, "it's not cancer". Try to keep your head above water for right now. It may very well not be the big C. While I was waiting for scan results I was crazy!!
God Bless you with a peace that will sustain you during all of this.

In March, the radiologist saw a new density in my remaining breast. Had an MRI, and it was nothing!! Still have to go in Sept. for a 6 month follow up for mammo, but it turned out to be just a hiccup on my radar. Same thing for you. You don't know what it is yet, so don't put that cart before the horse. Slow breaths...
Fingers crossed and prayers being sent for good reports on Friday.0 -

I am so sorry that you are going through this again. It seems like there is unfortunately alot of that going around here these days. I had a double mastectomy last june. But i just had a total hysterectomy because of having three tumors. Two were beneign, but one on the cervix was cancer, so i had a reoccurence in the cervix. I was very fortunate that they decided that doing chemo was not necessary and maybe you wont have to go through that again too. I think for most the second battle is harder because you are going into everything knowing what to expect out of it. You dread it more because you know. Ill be praying for you and hope that it turns out to just be a cyst or something. Please keep us posted and let us know.
take care

Thanks guys!! Feeling a little better about it. Everything is just so scary all the time. i will post on Friday when I get home from my appointment to let you know what i find out. It means alot to me that you all are here and care.0 -
I Sincerely Sympathize
with what you are going through. I have had 8 rounds of chemo and just had my radical mastectomy last Thursday. I know the pain and sickness you have had in the past. There are so many that think they are finally done with this awful disease only to find out that it has reinvented itself somewhere else.
I have come to the place where I know that my cancer, even if I get rid of it all, will most likely come back in the future as 10 out of 25 lymph nodes that they took out had cancer. I can try to tell myself that they cut out all the cancer but I know in my heart that most likely I will have it again.
I can tell you that my relationship and faith in God has brought me to a place of total peace. No stress, no fear, just faith in He who made me,gave me life and knows the date of my end here on earth. Please don't think I'm preaching at you ... I just wanted to let you know what has helped me.
I certainly can understand your fear, frustration, and worry. I will be upset also if when I get my hair back long enough to finally look like something other than peach fuzz and I find that I would have to lose it again. But, I also have an expectation to do just that.
I wish you the best...prayers will sent on your behalf and maybe this time they will be able to use something that doesn't make you lose your hair.0 -

that you're going through the "waiting" all over again. That's why I had bilateral mastectomy. I had ILC (6.1 cm so lumpectomy wasn't an option) in one breast and LCIS in the other. I didn't want to go through this twice. When oncologist told me I had a 20% chance of recurrence I didn't hesitate in telling him I would do whatever it takes to lessen my risk so chemo starts in 2 weeks. I'm sending cyber {{hugs}} that it's nothing to be worried about. Hang in there!

Nightmare
It sounds like you are experiencing all of our worst nightmares. All I can say is that I totally sympathize with you and am hoping you get GOOD news after your tests on Friday. Try and stay positive, stay strong and know that we are all here for you.

What to do?
First, SoftBallMom, I'm so sorry about your latest worry. This breast cancer beast is horrible and I'm finding myself more and more angry about it (I just started chemotherapy last week). But for all of the women who are having recurrences, there are many who are not. We just don't know and have to take one day at a time and do what we have to do. I hate that if you are having a recurrence, your original battle is still so fresh. You've definitely got my prayers that this turns out to be nothing. And you're right, no one can understand this unless you've gone through it.
Best wishes,
Suzanne0 -

My first message to you is to wish you well on your upcoming tests. Benign is a funny little word but it's beautiful! That's what I hope you hear very soon.
Secondly, are you really a softball mom? I am! My daughter is 20 and is currently in Australia to play in an International Friendship Competition. Gotta love it!
Best wishes! MM0 -
