Hey, hope you are doing well, you asked about my blood work and it seems to be an on going theme with me, everything was in the dreaded L zone! the Chemo just takes me to zero, what made it worse is I had my P.E.T. scan this morning and could not get my shot's on Monday,so right after scan ,I went to my Onc and they give me two shots to get my blood counts up.. hpoefully I will start feeling better soon. Get my results Thursday morning..... just taking it a day at a time my friend, every time I think I have it bad, I read some one elses post and it makes me realize that I don't have it so bad!!!!     BLOOD WORK.
    CAN'T UNDERSTAND THAT BLOODWORK WITH THE SHOTS YOU ARE GETTING. IT MAY BE THE TREATMENTS ARE SO CLOSE? AS FAR AS I KNOW MINE ARE STILL UP, BUT STILL DON'T HAVE THE ENERGY THAT I THINK I SHOULD HAVE. HIPS STILL SORE IF I WALK ANY DISTANCE. IT WILL GET BETTER AS TIME GOES ON FOR THOSE BLOOD COUNTS. KEEP US UP TO DATE WITH THE SCAN. DIDN'T MEAN TO CAPITALIZE THE LETTERS. WHEN I LOOKED UP I SAW I FORGOT TO TAKE IT OFF THE CAPS LOCK. TAKE CARE, JOHN

    Hi Vinny...I'm thinking good thoughts for you and hope your blood count goes up. I'm still waiting for BMB results...yawn..ha! Seems to be all I'm doing...waiting. Heart clinic called and said my doctor wants me to have a test done. They said it's like having an ultra sound, so I'm not worried in the least. Let us know what you find out on Thursday.Take Care....Sue

    HEART TEST
    Sue, I think what they want you to have is called a MUGA scan. It tells if your heart is strong enough for the R-chop. If not, it does not mean you have heart problems. It is a test that lets them know if the chop can damage the heart and cause problems later. I was in the low normal so they gave me the r-cvp.First thing I asked was,Now I got heart problems too? They said no, your heart is fine, its one of these drugs can cause damage to the heart. It just substitutes one of the drugs that is milder on the heart. So why don't they use it on everybody, right. I go next week for round 3. John

    Hi John....The test is called TTE W/Doppler,Complete. I hear ya on the "why don't they use it on everyone"....I think you and I come from that "common sense" generation. You know...look before we leap...live with-in our means...don't fix it if it aint broke...etc etc. Sometimes I feel like I just don't fit in with this modern high tech fancy pants society...ha! We have come miles and miles with medical treatments and procedures, but I can't help but think we have miles to go still when it comes to the whole trial and error process. Makes no sense to me how a poison can cure anything...but low and behold it's done everyday with good results. It's the darn short term long term side affects of the poison they give us that gives me the willies! Good luck on round 3...please keep telling me how it goes, cuz I'm getting close to starting round 1.

    Sue, yea I have always been that way with my thinking.Sometimes someone will say something like with the chemo drugs and their effects and why they use different ones. It boggles my brain with the reasoning. It seems as though the poisons work better now than the ones they used years ago, but they are still poisons. To get a little off the subject and not related to the chemo drugs but did you know 2 of the deadly poisons when put together are harmless and actually needed by the body. One is chloride and the other is sodium. when compounded together we have common table salt. Eaten separately is deadly. Maybe thats sort of the reasoning with chemo, but only its poison going in and destroying good and bad cells alike. The good cells are replaced quicker than the bad cells. Just makes me wonder what good cells are being destroyed that never come back. From what I read chemo affects every part of our body. I hope it doesn't destroy too many brain cells, I can't afford that. hahaha. So far I have been fortunate with the reactions. Just the weakness and overall tiredness. Blood counts have always been good so far. I have lost my taste, but it comes back in a short time.

They took some blood and mixed it with a radio isotope and reinjected it and did scans as it went thru the heart. The volume of the beats told them the strenght of the heart. It was low normal. The dr. said my heart was fine its just that one of the chemo drugs has been known to cause heart valve damage which can cause problems down the road. He said some centers will still go with the r-chop with low normal, but they won't. Thats when they said we'd go with the r-cvp. The results are the same they said. Thats when I thought why not use it for everybody then. I checked it out on the computer and it said the same thing about results. Its just a different cocktail. It said some facilities use both and others go with one or the other. It won't be long now and you will be starting your first round. The benadryl will make you tired the rest of the day. You should be fine the next day and then it will start to hit you by the third day. I go back on Tuesday the 27th. then back the next day for the neulastra shot. Should be dragging by Friday. Keep in touch, John
