Sending good vibes to you!
As usual, spent much more time waiting than being worked on. Didn;t need to drink banana-flavored contrast (looking forward to it as I hadn't drunk or eaten since 9 PM Sun night when I tried to go to sleep)as they used intravenous connection via a back-of-my-hand vein to inject contrast, sedative and pain solutions (That area really hurts now). They run the CT so doctor knows exactly where fluid is so he knows where to stick ya with needle and device to withdraw fluid..Luckily fluid was not bloody or discolored (indicative of infection)which would have required placement of catherer in me for a few days) tho it will get analyzed. I was able to look at myself on the screen as procedure was done....Due to location of fluid, doctor entered in upper left buttock. Hurt as he pushed needle further so they increased painkillers.....It worked.
I think its called an abdominal drain due to pelvic collection(?)Apparently its rather common after surgical procedures, such as a colostomy.....I also read (while I was waiting and waiting and waiting)all the reports on me in the folder.....Now I have some questions to ask my doctors!!!!!!
Anyway, I guess stuff like this goes with the territory.........steve0 -

Hi Steve,
Sending well wishes. I, too, had an accumulation of fluid in my pelvis following my second ileostomy procedure. Had it drained while I was hospitalized for an infection of unknown origin. Turned out to be "benign" fluid. Hope yours is, too. It does hurt to get that drain inserted!
Regards,

different, tho I'm hurtin now....Butt a little sore but nurse who inserted IV sliced my vein which is why I couldn't make a fist or hold anything in left hand when I got home (removed tape etc and looked at hand)Its the little things sometimes that really mess you up......Remember that spacecraft that blew up because of "O" rings, a minor little detail?
Anyway.....didn't know anyone else had this but sounds similar to what Dorothy had and yes I am glad doctor didnot have to insert catherer had fluid been other than it so far appears to be.....Have enough problems as it is.......steve0 -
Aspiration
Hey Steve,
I missed your post or I would have been able to tell you the waiting was just about the worst of it.
I had nearly two litres taken out. It was very cool to watch. The down side was it was crushing my left kidney and that stopped working for a short while and now I need a stint to open up a crushed uterer so that the left kidney can stop being such a slacker. My fluid was also clear and came back from pathology as okay. Also, I had no reoccurrence of the fluid so it was not an on going problem.
Hopefully you will not have any problems because of your fluid buildup. I understand that most people do not have additional problems from the fluid buildup, but they can occur.0 -

Right in the buttocks! Glad things went well Steve. It's nice to find out that whay one has isn't uncommon. The thing you don't want to hear is"Wow, I've never seen THAT before!" from your doctor. Today wasn't a bad day to wait indoors with AC. I have been reading Marathon Man and I was able to finish it today while I went from appointment to appointment. I'm glad I wasn't going to the dentist!
It was a hot muggy day in the city today (I got mugged 2 times in Central park). It had poured on my way in but it stopped once I got free street parking. I just walked from WestEnd to SK @ 67th & York. A nice walk though the park. Took photos, listened to a sax player in the park playing Stardust Memories (i named the tune but gave HIM a $1. I think I should have called it even since I guessed it but that could be me on day) Got my date for RFA, Aug (Friday) the 13th. I see it as good luck. I was able to do all the pre-admin stuff too.
Again, glad it went well Steve

you had a fluid buildup or just that kidneys were hurting? I think 15 ccs were removed; never knew it was wherever it was as I felt no different; even now, except for slight annoyance in hand and butt (but no ifs).Hopefully thats the end of this story as I'm sure they'll be others to follow down the road with this dis-ease........Try to stay cool in this heatwave .....steve0 -

Had a kidney biopsy a couple of years back. They gave me a local anaesthetic. My kidney was in 13 cm the local went in about five. Whatever happened to the old rawhide wad between the teeth,at least it was honest. Best of luck mate hope this chapter is over,Ron.0 -

anesthesia, even something like a pulled tooth (root canal w/o novacaine, no way!!!!A colostomy-wonder when (how) someone discovered this as a way to save your life by creating a new **** in your abdomen)
How long has it been that we've had chemo and radiation to extend our existence? Or the scans/devices to detect cancers? .......
The history of medicine is quite fascinating.(actually, at this point in my life everything is fascinating)..... steve0 -

I had elevated creatinin numbers and I was due for an MRI anyway. I could not feel anything, I could not believe how much space it took up in my abdomen and me without a clue!
What heat wave? Nice and cool here in NJ. Yes sire, nice and cool. I have taken to weighing my Depends at the end of really sweaty days. My record so far is 3.2 lbs! (just sweat! I don't weigh the other stuff, that would just be weird)0
