Gerson Therapy?

My dad was diagnosed the beginning of June with multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma. He has had hep C for 40 years and has stage 4 cirrhosis. Now...aside from this diagnosis he is well. Totally asymptomatic (just looking at him) is what I mean. Six tumors were found that range in size from 15mm-2cm. His dr. said not doing any treatment was a viable and understandable option. Does this sound right? He has a tumor that is very close to invading his portal vein and his dr. thinks that may limit the ablation treatment. Well, anyway, if he isn't going to be doing any medical stuff would the Gerson therapy be a good thing to do? Has anyone tried it? I seemed to be okay with the no treatment thing because the dr. seemed to make it that there was really no chance of getting ride of the cancer, but everyone here seems to be getting treatment no matter what the case. How long can I expect him to be with us??? Any thoughts?

    Hi Yomama and welcome to our discussion board. Sorry to hear of your dad's dx. My dad passed away in March from ec with mets to his liver. From what I have been learning, with liver cancer, it depends on where the tumor/tumors are. If they are to the right or left, surgery can be preformed, if the tumor/tumors are in the center, near the portal vein, surgery can not be preformed. This is due to possible damage occurring with regards to the veins. I have not heard of this Gerson treatment. I have heard of a treatment called threaspeares for liver cancer. There are many people on this discussion board that can help you. I would also suggest possibly considering a second opinion from a well known cancer center that specializes in liver cancer.     There is no chance of surgery because his cirrhosis is so advanced. Tumors are in the right lobe mainly, but there is one that is very close to the portal vein. It is also primary cancer, which of course means it started in the liver.

    Just checking back
    Hi yomama
    Just checking back in with you. There are new liver cancer treatments available. There is a couple here from the esophageal discussion board, who has mets to his liver now. He is going for the new therasphere treatment, and is doing rather well. Hang in there, keep doing your research, and get that second opinion.

    My husband has primary HCC
    My husband has primary HCC as well. It is treated differently from cancer that "mets" from elsewhere, because it doesn't respond to treatments the same way. The stage of cirrhosis makes a difference in whether they can operate or not. My husband was scheduled for RFA, but the tumor (s) had gotten too large, his liver was too cirrhotic for any chemo, so they did a bland embolization with out the chemo to try and restrict blood flow to the tumor. Doc says as little 6 months if no response to treatment, and possibly as long as two years. I don't pay much attention to time frames, tho, because every one's body, health status, etc are different.

    I've never heard of Gerson therapy, though.
