Hey all. This is one website that I was hoping I'd never have to visit, but here I am! Mom had biopsy last Tuesday, got results Wed afternoon. Had 1st appt at cancer center yesterday. She has her MRI and PET scan on Thursday and starts first cycle of Chemo on Monday. I am having the darnest time with all this but what's most frustrating is I can't seem to find REAL up-to-date info. The doctor said treatment options are changing so fast so I thought it would be easy to find information that was up to date but NO! We aren't sure of her stage yet.. find that out during her Friday appt. If anyone could get me some current info... personal stories, what to expect, that would be GREAT!!!

Sorry to hear of your mom's
Sorry to hear of your mom's diagnosis. My mom was dx 3/1 with SCLC w/mets to brain (and then 3/31 mets to spine). She first underwent whole brain radiation (WBR) to get the neurological issues under control. Then started chemo, but had to stop when tumor was found on spine. Again...12 rounds of radiation. (chemo does not usually help when the central nervous system is involved)....then back to 4 rounds of chemo. Last Wednesday, the doc said mom was in remission. Not to be confused with cured or out of the woods, and she certainly is not the woman she was prior to dx, but we are getting there.
If they have not yet done the MRI and PET, her diagnosis is probably not complete. SCLC is a "mover"....they will need to make sure she does not have any metastesis before deciding on a treatment plan.
There are various treatments available all depend upon the dx, the patients general health, and the doctor. Please update us after your appt Thursday.
Hold on, this is a long ride with twists and turns. Positive thoughts head to you and your mom.0 -
