I am new to this site. I was diagnosed with stage 3 tonsil cancer with one lymp 2.7 in the right neck. (proballoy 3cm now) I have been to 2 each, ent, oncologist for opionons. For the record, they tried to remove tonisl but was not able to successfully do so. The tonsil is very small and lodged way back in my throat. Major risk with trying to get it out, and would require radiation anyway. All that being said, I have also look at every "Alternative Medicne". Yesterday I went to another state (KY where I reside does not allow Holostic Doctors to practice in the state) to see a holostic doctor. He is recommending "Proton Thearpy" He is actually making some call to see if I am a canidate for the thearpy. The questions is anyone know anything about proton thearpy? and I am totally surprised that a Holostice Doctor would advise mainstream treatment..What is your opinion.

    Possible other options
    DJG1,

First, let me echo what Debbie already stated, sorry that you have to be here searching for answers.

On your quest for answers, has it been mentioned for you to see about the Robotic operation to remove the tonsil in question? My Surgeon is now doing this type of surgery if the patient is a candidate. Cuts down on damage to many parts of the neck and throat. He wasn't doing the Robotic years ago when I met him. Kimba1505 on this site is a caregiver to her partner Mark who is currently going thru treatments. He had the Robotic surgery.

Proton Therapy is suppose to be more percise in the control of the radiation beam. I had the IMRT treatments, which at that time was suppose to be the better of the radiation treatments, 5 years ago. The Proton Beam is to be able to stop at the Tumor and not pass far beyond the targeted area. In the case of the IMRT beam, anyone that has received this type can tell you that even though the machine moves only so far around the front of your face and neck, you still may have no hair growing in the back of your neck. So the beam travels thru the tumor sight and out the other side causing damage to some of the healthy tissue. I still have no saliva, now this is not a complaint on my part, as I am very greatful to be here. Just one of the possible side effects.

No matter what your treatment(s) will be, there will be side effects. Some people have very few side effects while others have many. It has been and will continue to be stated here, each of us recovers and handles our treatments differently then the next person. The Doctors will and should give you the worst case scenario. I was given the worst case scenarios (2) and neither of them happened. Expect the worst and hope for the best. You can do this. Find out as much information as possible and be your own advacate. Take someone along to your meetings with your Doctors, take a note pad and write things down. Allot is going to be thrown at you. It is better to have another pair of ears there to hear everything. They may even have questions you didn't think about.

You can do this, as you can see from the many people here, we have done it also, some like Hondo has done it 3 times.

My Best to You and Everyone Here
