Temporary SSI

Has anyone tried to get tempary SSI with Thyroid Cancer? I don't want disability cause I know I WILL go back to work but with what I used to do before I lost my job, that it will take a while to build back up. I was walking 10 miles a day in a warehouse(warehouse work is all I've ever done.) My unemployment will run out soon and I have to find away to help support my family. I just don't want to worry about losing my house also on top of everything else.
