My mom & dad on their way to Duke a 3 hour drive that have done so many times. My dad just finished his cleanup chemo (5 rounds xeloda 2 weeks on, 1 off). (he had chemo/rad at Duke and then surgery 12/09). He is pretty wiped out, but what bothers him more is recurrent diarrhea. They don't know if it is due to what he's eating, the chemo or what. But otherwise---and considering the "alternatives" he is doing pretty well. He still is active and frustrated he can't get all the projects done he wants to. He will get all the blood tests and CT, meet with surgeon & oncologist over 2 days to discuss future plans. They hope to have the rest of the summer a little free. We all hope to meet to for a regular family reunion we try to do each year----of course this one will feel different--glad he is still here to enjoy, nervous for his future and sad for his brother that we lost a month ago to EC...

We know he has had continual divine guidance through this process---but I just want to ask you all for prayers for the next few days---they just don't know what to expect and I know are nervous about it.

I know you all have gone through these tests as well....it is comforting to know we are not alone... thank you all for being here for so many others!
Kim

    Lomotil helped me
    Kim,

I can certainly identify with your dad's side effects. Unfortunately diarrhea is one of the common side effects of xeloda. It is also a common side effect of 5 FU and I certainly had it. I discussed it with my oncologist and he prescribed Lomotil. I took one before each meal every day while I had chemo and it reduced the diarrhea substantially. Diarrhea certainly makes traveling a challenge!!!

Also, as William suggests, when they give me that big container of contrast to drink I tell them, "I only have about half of my stomach, so I am only going to drink half of this." They always say, "drink what you can."

We will be praying that your dad gets a good report from the CT scan.

    Best Regards,

    prayers coming
    Hi Kim,
Will be praying that your Dad's tests all come back clear. Hope his diarrhea clears, I took Lomotil like Paul is recommending but I was on the 5FU at the time and my cleanup was taxotere no diarrhea with that one. Hope he feels better and sounds like he has so much spunk always a good thing. Prayers always and good wishes.

    Kim,
    Prayers for your mom &

    Kim,

Prayers for your mom & dad and you too. We daughters have a tough time sometimes not being able to be there but we have other responsibilities too.

Your dad has already gotten past the tough stuff - keep the faith and start planning that family reunion :)

    Hugs,
    Cindy

I'll be thinking of you and your parents!!! I'm sorry to hear about your uncle not being a survivor. I try to come on here, but it's still too hard. All my best to you and your parents!!
