Housework cuts breast cancer risk

I'm tired of all these studys that say this or that. What! I did housework and still got breast cancer...didn't cut my risk! I got it so I guess that is 100%. I think they need to look at a lot of different other factors before saying something like this. Getting cancer is pretty complicated thing. You have to look at the whole picture not just how much housework was done.

Geez.

    I am a healthy
I am a healthy person....except for cancer. A non smoker,I maintain a healthy weight ( size 8-10) at age 60, do 5Ks and half marathons regularly, walk 5 miles 3X a week. I eat almost no red meat, LOVE salads , fish and veggies, I drink water by the ton~ and have moderate amounts but regular red wine. I read, belong to a book club, am not depressed, have a good attitude, am in a loving, supportive MARRIAGE ( whooo hhoo) to a man who is wildly crazy about me. I also did and still do housework. And yet, as you know, I am here because I not only HAD cancer, but because right now I am fighting mets.

Which high risk category did I just fall into? Oh that's right...being a woman raised my risk and I think, just being alive!

I'm with you Marcia, studies be damned!

    Hugs,
    Chen♥

    No offense intended, Marcia...
Am not even going to check out that link. Balderdash.

BC is currently described - by the onc med pros - as "situational"... Or, "environmental"... (Those are interchangeable terms.) I was/still am ASSURED that BC is NOT a "lifestyle" cancer; i.e., we don't "give" it to ourselves by what we do or don't do.

    I repeat: balderdash.

    Kind regards, Susan

Yeah, being alive puts us at risk for almost everything. Do a study on that one, not!

It just goes to show, sometimes you have to cut the crap. I mean not believe everything you read. Some studys just aren't done properly to begin with. It's like they use to say about computers: garbage in, garbage out.

    I agree with the statement
I agree with the statement that this was someone's way to get their house cleaned. I have cleaned as a young person growing up and have always cleaned my house as an adult and guess what, I must be the exception because I got breast cancer.

Can you believe that they followed 200,000 women for 6 years for this study? Someone worked for 6 years. Sometimes I think it's just a way to produce work for themselves. Hey lets start a study on stupid studys and give ourselves a paycheck!

    Good One, Hubby!
Are you kidding me??? That wasn't true? OMG~ it cannot be! I can't believe that "those boys" were lying to me~my teenage acne cleared up by itself????? How utterly humiliating....

I admit it, I suck at housecleaning...
but I always put my family FIRST! If there was a ball game to attend, I was there, who cares about the house, it will still be there when I get home. Boy am I glad I did that now! You can't get those days back, but guess what! My house is still intact!

    Geez
At least now I understand! My daughter, even after grad school, has cleaned my house for extra money since she was a teenager. At least now I know that it wasn't all of those other 2000 things that they say can cause cancer. To think that all I had to do was get out the vacuum cleaner. I wish I had known this before surgery and chemo (she says facetiously) - I'm sure if I had started cleaning, it would have made it go away, too! You just have to wonder where they come up with these things.....

    Marcia,
    This is a good post

    Marcia,

This is a good post and makes a great point: there seem to be too many "studies" out there that seem crazy.

I don't know about all of you but I am SICK of hearing on the news about a new study to prevent bc or seeing an article about bc in EVERY magazine I open. Get a mammogram, drink more coffee, stop drinking coffee, drink wine (but not too much), buy a super duper and really expensive bra to avoid bc.

I am all for younger women (under 40) getting mammograms for early detection and for the health care systems to start taking this seriously, but after already having bc I am just tired of hearing about it everywhere I turn. I want to scream at the TV news "I don't NEED a mammogram any more even though I am 42 - just shut up!"

Sorry to vent - I woke up today in tremendous pain with swollen limbs and a bad headache.

    can't believe everything you read
Thanks for sharing. I agree wholeheartedly with you. I have not opened the link and don't intend to. There are many studies, some good and some not so good. I always consider who are the investigators and their funding sources. Looks like this one had an agenda to get the ladies back into the home to do the housework. Clearly, there are poor studies, studies that lack rigorous and sound basis or measurement or limited by the statistics they used. Then there is sampling issues...are they representative of the whole population or skewed? The size of the study etc.
If I believed all of the studies, I would be driving myself crazy trying to figure out why I got BC. I don't think we should be blaming ourselves for getting BC.
I am married to the same great guy for 38 yrs, have breastfed my children, work full time, I am active, eat a healthy diet (no red meat, lowfat diet), never smoked, don't drink alcohol regularly, Do MY OWN HOUSEWORK, practice yoga, manage stress well, started yearly mammograms at age 30 yrs old etc.....By virtue of the fact that I am a female, 60 yrs old and exposed to environmental factors beyond my control as well as, possible genetic factors (unknown), I was diagnosed and treated for BC. Housework does not seem to be a deciding factor for anyone I have ever heard of. Thanks for an opportunity to vent. Hmmm that felt good, now I need to go clean my apartment!
    Hugs, K

    Just tax dollars
hard at work for the common good....LOL.
This ranks up there with the US govt giving a $2 million dollar grant to study pig feed lots and if they stink or not. They could have bought me a tank of gas so I could drive to one, 2 sniffs and I will have your answer for just $35. The govt could give the rest of the $2M to REAL cancer research!!!!
