make sure you have long and short term disablity benifits at work

2 months ago I went to the Er they took a cat scan sent me home told me I had a stomack Virus, I kept getting dizzy headed and sick after I ate , was blaming it on my cafeteria at work, finally went to a gastronologist told him my syptoms had a colnoscopy on wed march 31st 2010 on june 2nd I had surgery to take out a huge tumor on my colon , had to have a 2nd surgery cause i got sick and my biles was twisted so they had to go back and repair, I have colon cancer stage 4 now I dont have no income have to wait for medicaid to get my chemo cause my Ins has ran out, I work at a great place a hospital everyone there has donated their sick time and vacation time for me, I was so blessed to have them, I didnt take out short term or long term disability cause I was waiting till june to get my raise, never thought I would need it, they take out so much out on me as it is after ins, 401k and all they take almost 200.00 so I couldn afford them taking out anymore, Wrong!! Imade a mistake dont let this happen to you, my husband also has pancreas cancer he has had for 1 year , so thankful he is on disability, I have lost my income, job, I know will be there when Iget back, its depressing cause i had to let my van be repo cause i cant afford it, so everyone have a colonoscopy when you get 30 or 40 dont wait, and take all the ins benifits you can at work,now Im jsut hoping my cancer dont spread so I can get my chemo I have 6 kids and 7 grandchildren I hope to be around to see them grow up

Not all employers offer short and long term disability, mine does not offer it. If you work for a larage facility then you should be eligible for family leave and not lose your health insurance. My husband is Stage IV as are many on the board and once healed from surgery, worked full time through chemo, as many have and continue to do. You may be able to handle the chemo better than you think and return to work while doing chemo. but for infusion time.

When you have time let us know a little more about your cancer, where it is, if it has spread to other organs, will you need to do radiation, what the treatment plan is, etc. and perhaps the members can be of help to you regarding what to expect.
