I've been
I've been taking flaxseed (ground or oil) as well as fish oil tablets for years. Flaxseed is excellent source of fiber as fish oil is for our hearts. When I found out I had BC I had to stop everything but my BP meds 2 weeks before surgery. I don't think I'll be able to take any vitamins while getting chemo & rad either. I have to ask when I meet w/drs.

I take Vit E. I went 4 days w/o it and noticed flashes every couple hours. Back on them now. Had a colonscopy and vit e is kind of a blood thinner. I haven't heard about flaxseed.
Sorry. Katz
Debbie,
I am anxious to hear what website you found that said it was not good for us with bc? Everything I have researched has said that IT IS good for us with bc. Please advise me where you saw this.

I also thought the ER and PR positive are NOT supposed to take flax seed. Glad that you are posting that they shouldn't. I called my onco and he said NO, as I am ER and PR +.

it hasn't done squat for my flashes, but it is good for your heart so i sprinkle it on my oatmeal every morning. My oncologist prescribes low dose lexapro for my flashes. It works like a charm !
Flax seed is supposed to be good and I enjoy it sprinkled on oatmeal or in a salad. It should be refrigerated and not used after two weeks. It is destroyed by oxidation and the seeds deteriorate.Cooking or heating it counteracts its benefits.
I was told not to use it during rad treatments. I am meeting with the nutritionist tomorrow as part of a Komen study that I am involved in. I will check on the latest information about Flax seed, fish oil and Vitamin E, all supplements that I have been taking for years but stopped on the advice of my breast surgeon and Rad Onc.

I would be very interested in what you find out. I have been asking to see a dietician and they tell me there isn't one for cancer patients. I was like scooby do...I said....huh? I could not believe it. Please send me a private email or put a post out about what to eat and not to eat and also about supplements. I have been taking flaxseed oil with omega 3 supplements...are those as good as eating the natural seeds? Please also ask about Vitamin D3, almond milk and anything else that will help. Thanks Kay.
