What happens next when the chemo isn't killing the cancer?

my sister has 4 kinds of cancer in stage 4. she has had 4 chemo treatments. they did a scan to see if the chemo was working and they said it isn't. does anyone know what will be next. thanks

    4 kinds
    When you say 4 kinds, are you saying it has metastasized to other places or do you really mean she has four different kinds of cancer? If it's the former, you may have to wait a while longer to see results. Or, her doctor may have to change to a different chemo - you know there are a number of different ones. If she actually has multiple kinds of cancer, I have no idea. Sometimes it's a little bit of trial and error. Best wishes to her, and to you as you travel this journey with her. Knowledge truly is power. Find out exactly what she has, read all about it, and don't be afraid to ask questions! Stay strong. MM

    I am not a doctor, so, I don't really know. But, there are so many different kinds of chemo out there. Perhaps, they can try another one? Good luck!

    Like the others - I don't think I have any answers and it is probably dependent upon some of the same questions they have posted. Is it for example, bone cancer in 4 different bones or is it 4 different body organs. As they said, there are lots of different chemo cocktails out there and some really new stuff such as platinum based therapies, targeted therapies, etc. for some cancers. Depending on what your sister's oncologist says, you may also wantto ask about any promising clinical trials. I wish you and your family the very best - you will bein my thoughts and prayers!
