Hi there!
My name is Julie and I use to be a member of this network. I've met so many great people that gave me support and strength. I became a member of this board in 2004 when my mother was diagnosed with colorectal cancer (stage 3B). Six years later she is alive and well! She has been back to work for a long time and has been blessed with 2 new grandchildren since!
I had an uncle pass away from colon cancer at the age of 54 in 2000. My mother was diagnosed in 2004 and I had a 33 year old cousin (my uncle's son) pass away almost 2 years ago.
Colon Cancer has been a part of my life for over 10 years. I and all the members in my family are now screened regularly. Early detection is the key but you can beat it!!!! Stay strong!!!!

Hi Julie,
Thanks so much for this post. It is so good to hear that your mother is doing so well! It gives hope to all of us. I am sorry of the losses in your family, but glad to hear you are all being scanned regularly. By the way, I am a Canadian also.0 -
thanks for sharing
Hi Julie,
Thank you for taking the time to post and share the news of how great your mom is doing six years later! News like that gives many of us hope! I'm glad you and your family members take it seriously and get screened. How so many of us on the board wish we had been screened earlier- it could have prevented us from having stage IV cancer if it had been caught in an earlier stage, or even if it had been caught as just a benign polyp before even turning cancerous. Live and learn and, like I said, I'm glad you and your family members are being cautious and are getting screened.
Your title said newly diagnosed, but then you didn't say anything about that in your main message. Have you just been diagnosed with cancer, as well? Not sure if that's what you meant or not. I hope not but, if so, you know that we'll be supporting you here.
Take care and blessings to you, your mom, and the rest of your family-
Lisa0
