I have not seen this on the board as of yet, so let me see what your opinions are. My husband had a radical prostatectomy via robot on April 10th in west LA Kaiser. Had surgery early Sat morning was home by Sunday evening, amazing. Surgery went well Dr said cancer confined to the prostate, removed 7 lymph nodes and spared the nerves right and left side. His PSA was 7.98 gleason 3+4=7. Everything was going great 9 days after surgery the cath was removed and he had full bladder control, not so much as a dribble and dry all night. Than a nightmare unfolded onMonday, May 3 almost a month after the surgery he woke up with a fever 101 and feeling like he had the flu. I asked him should we call the Dr? No he said I think 1 of the5 Grankids gave me the flu dont worry. Well all week fever 99-102 now wed he wakes up in the middle of the night and the bed is soaked from sweat and his body is ice cold and clammy....Still he wont call the Dr. On Friday May 7th around 8 p.m. he crawls in the bed I look at him and he is RED and HOT 102-103 lower abdoman pain urinating every 5 min but feels like he can not empty the bladder, I call the hospital they tell me bring him to emergency, now he is scared, I am terrified.. they admit him put him on 2 kinds of antibiotics intravenously and give hime tylenol for fever. This continues for a week, still he runs a fever Dr not sure what is going on, maybe a nick in the bowel, maybe infection,hum not sure. They do a CT on Wed and decide lymph fluid or urine is in his abdoman. Great, they drin the right side saying the left side is to dangerous to drain. He felt good for 2 days so they sent us home. We were home 2 hrs and the fver came back
with the belly pain and the feeling of not being able to empty. We go back to the hospital, they admit him again for a week, take him back to CT spend to hrs draing him right and left side this time and then put a drain in him. Dr said the fluid is lymph fluid not urine. Diagnosis lymphocele..He thinks geez.. So as of today my husband still has the drain and they will be doing another CT on Mon, May 24. I could go on and on about what took place in the hospital all I can say is if anyone and everyone that you love if they are ever hospitalized DO NOT leave them alone, I never left my husbands side, it is a good thing that I didn't.. I guess my question is has this nightmare happened to anyone else out there?

    Good luck to you both!
    I was in Johns Hopkins and they wouldn't allow my wife to stay with me overnight. I did have an IV that emptied into the tissues of my left hand over night, and I complained about "discomfort" every two hours when the nurses woke me up to check my vitals, but nothing was done. By the morning, my left hand was swollen the size of a softball. A student nurse came in to check on me, and she's the one that got some action. My experience was nothing like yours, however.

    I'm appalled at this email and the one that prompted it. I can't imagine how any hospital can justify not allowing a spouse to stay overnight--provided the spouse behaves properly. As my mom lay dying--in 1964!--I was welcome to spend the night whenever she wanted me to. My best wishes to you both. Now may I preach to vijkrejon58's husband and to the rest of you straight guys. Forgive me for all caps; I'm not yelling, just emphasizing. IF YOU START FEELING WEIRD, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE ALREADY SICK, GO TO THE DOCTOR! THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE FOR! It's a verifiable stereotype that straight men put off going to the doctor until it's too late. John Medlin, aka muttsrule.

    Well, 2ndBase, I shouldn't have popped off with 'verifiable.' I have read in such authoritative sources as Men's Health that 'men' tend not to go to the doctor until they're really in trouble. But this veers off-topic. I'm curious to know what you mean by 'total ignorance of sexual preference.' If you'd like to talk further, let me know here and I'll send you my email. John

    Men are men
    Did Men's Health really say that men had to be straight to avoid going to the doctor or is that your slant on it? You do not need to reply just think about what you post here and take responsability for it.
