question re: cytomel/thyroid uptake and scan

Hi,
I am having a thyroid uptake/scan on June 7th. I have taken synthroid since 1997, but most recently stopped taking it and my doctor replaced it with 25 mcg of cytomel twice a day.
My questions:
1. I know I have to stop taking the cytomel prior to the uptake/scan, but not sure if it is to stop 2 weeks prior or 10 days or what?
2. No one has told me to follow a low-iodine diet....should I be doing this?
I have a nodule that looks "suspicious" on sonogram. The lymph node next to the nodule was also enlarged on the sonogram. FNA came back normal, but doctor wants to be sure all is ok, as do I.
From reading post on this website, it seems that many times a diagnosis of cancer is not made UNTIL the removal of the gland. Is this correct?
Thanks,
M

Diff Cytomel question
Need more info to answer your questions. Sounds like you still have your thyroid intact since you have suspicious nodules, maybe you have Hashimoto and/or you are hypothyroid? I think the prep for thyroid cancer patients and grave's disease patients is the same, but not sure about procedure prep for Hashimoto /hypothyroid.
My questions is how many time a day to take Cytomel. I had 2 separate operations this month (since first one came back as hurthle cell carcinoma, the rest had to go). After second surgery (and 2nd thyroid cancer, papillary was found) was put on Cytomel, 25mg 1X each day. I keep on reading in posts and in books that it should be taken 2x per day. Should I question my Endo? I'm on Cytomel until 6/15.
