Vitamin E and hotflashes
Comments

Hi, Patti -
With my gynecologist's blessing, I started taking the same dosage that cindycflynn on this board mentioned: 1 400-IU pill, morning and night, so 800 IU per day total. 400 IU seems to be the standard dosage for a Vitamin E tablet -- I just bought the generic ones from the drugstore.
I've been taking it for about 3 weeks, and will also check with my oncologist when I see him this week, to make sure he concurs with my gynecologist. I do think it's helping me sleep longer most nights without waking up from hot flashes as often, but it definitely hasn't eliminated them entirely.
I specifically asked my gynecologist how long I should take it before really being able to evaluate how it's working for me. She said that, after about two weeks, it would probably be working as well as it's going to for me.
Hope that helps,

Be sure and run this by your oncologist first, but, it seems that Vitamin E has helped some.

I'm trying it
After my oncologist suggested up to 800IU daily. I started toward the end of my chemo before I started rads, but then my rads onco didn't want me taking it during rads so I stopped during that time. Have been back at it for the past 2 1/2 weeks, and maybe because I'm now on Tamoxifen it doesn't seem to be quite as effective as it was before.
I'll give it a little more time, but I'm also going to talk to my doc about alternatives when I see her next week.
If your doc okays itn it's worth a shot since side effects are minimal.
Good luck,
Cindy
