tattooing-done today
Not bad at all. The lanocaine shots were worse than the tattooing which I never felt. I am a little bruised but feel fine.
Plastic surgeon started me on antibiotics yesterday as a precaution and special antibacterial wash which I started to use on Sunday.
Hopefully we have nipped this in the bud so I don't get another infection.
Sorry for the pun--LOL

That's my next and last(I hope) step Margo! And I enjoyed the pun...I hope it makes mine look more alike...right now they look like they belong to 2 different women!
How soon after the chemo did you get the tattoos? How long do you have to wait after your initial surgery? I would assume there is a waiting period.0 -
Nip, Nip Hurray!
So glad to hear things went well! I start my first nipple reconstruction mid-June. The tatooing seems so far away! Keep us all posted on the healing process of nips!

I had the exchange done in November.
Nipple reconstruction in February.
You have to wait at least 3 months after the nipple reconstruction to do the tattooing.
I finished my chemo July--still on Herceptin--which looks like end of October because of some bumps in the road.

Sore last night needed to take Tylenol so I could sleep.0 -
So here's my question to you
So here's my question to you Margo.....do you like your new breasts? I'm in the expansion process, hate these expanders, but I think we all do. But I have a really nice flap from my back that has really saved me on the left side, expansion is SO SO painful on the right. Anyhow, I really wonder how many woman like their new breasts when they get them all complete. Love the pun!! and the nip nip hurray, that was awesome

At last...
The surgical portion of your journey is now complete - glad and relieved for you, friend. And hoping both the antibiotics and special wash do their jobs well and prevent infection.
Kind regards, Susan0 -

Kari,
I really like my new TaTa's. The expanders are so much harder. You will notice a difference when the exchange is done. I never had any pain from the expansions except for the last one there was some discomfort but never pain.
I don't know about the tattooing yet--still putting bandages with ointment on them should be better looking in a few days.0 -

Surely our implants will be better looking and more comfortable (!!!) than these yucky, hard expanders. I can hardly wait until I'm done with chemo and can get my implants. Best birthday present ever.
I haven't heard that many bad stories about the exchange, meena. Did you have radiation and are you worried about healing and how your skin will look? My plastic surgeon says he'll keep working on me until I'm happy -- fat moved into my node-removal craters, etc. I know -- more surgery -- but worth it, I'm convinced.
We've been through so much, it's natural to be scared of more surgery and recovery. I have to turn my mind away from the thought of getting my mastectomy scars re-incised -- ugh. But keep your eyes on the prize, meena -- implants in place, nips or not, moving on into the "new normal" with NED.0 -

You'll be way comfortable without them. One more scary step and then you're home free with less scary procedures. Don't settle. This advice is coming from a severe needle-phobe with a very stressful job as well. Have your doc prescribe some Xanax to calm you down-it helped me a TON.

are you happy with the tattooing? I am done with nipple reconstruction and in that 3 month wait period.
i am concerned with the tattooing looking so flat like two little round circles..
I am thinking about going to my tattooist about getting tattoos with some deepth and realistic look.
Curious what you thought about the final look0 -

The tattooing is darker than you want for about two weeks and then will be the color that was chosen.
Two flat circles---NOT---remember you have a nipple and they tattoo that as well. The circles look natural and not like they are outlined.

How did they make the nipple?
Margo, did they use tissue from another area of your body to form the nipple?0 -

on me he just manipulated the skin around the nipple, so i didn't have a graft site. I only wanted very suttle nipples.. so not sure if that is how everyone has it done... because in the very beginning he told me i would have a donor site... Then we discuss only a very very suttle nipple and that's what he did.. cut open my incision a bit, manipulated the skin to make a little nipple and sewed me back up..0 -

My nipple was made from tissue on my breast. At first the nipples are large because of the swelling. I think my made nipples are a lot smaller then my real ones were. You don't have to worry about nipple hard-ons.
