Heading to Moffitt

Thank you all for your input on Radiation plans. We met with second radiation oncologist and got a very different plan of action than that of the first doc. This all makes us very confused. I called Moffitt and have an appointment next Friday to get a third opinion. We will go with what Moffitt says. One doc wants to radiate 2x a day and the other is against this. One wants to use IMRT and the other does not. It's all so confusing. So far, we feel really confident about the choice for the neck dissection. Hubby is doing beautifully and most feeling is already back one week post surgery. All strength and arm mobility are very good. I hate that there is still a primary cancer somewhere in his throat and really wish they could get it out. I hate this occult primary situation. Even though the PET scan and MRI show what they think is the primary, they cannot get a positive biopsy. Hopefully, the plan from Moffitt will make us comfortable that he will be OK after treatment. You have all been so supportive and informative. This is a great place to go to feel 'not so alone'. Thanks all and will keep posting on what the Moffitt plan is.

    I have only heard of good things about Moffitt. Good luck to you and the best thing to do is to trust those you have entrusted your care to.

    This is really strange and I can't quote you a reference but do remember reading it only because it was so counter intuitive. The chance of survival for an unknown primary is slighly higher than a known primary. Perhaps is because they throw more resources at it?

    I was an unknown primary and docs said I had a cure rate of 95%. I also had 2x a day radiation using IMRT with concurrent chemo. After seeing what that consists of I would not have it any other way Best Wishes & Prayers
