Last night my husband & I celebrated his first year anniversary from his surgery date. today we were in the ER all afternoon. Talk about FREAKY. He has a lot of blood in his urine. They released him and gave him a urologist # and told us to call and make an appointment on Monday morning. Told him he would need to have some scope test done to see why! We are suppose to leave on a cruise on 5/9. guess not now, but we purchased the insurance. Anyone else have blood in urine? thanks for reading. God bless. margaret

    Pat Kapper did...but also
My youngest son had a bad bladder infection at four years of age and had blood in his urine. I have had small amounts with bladder infections.

Don't cancel your plans yet! Maybe it's something minor. Did you know a man can bleed into his ejaculation and it's not a big deal.

Now don't panic unless or until there is something to panic about. Easier said than done though. Don't go and cancel your plans. After going thru all this cancer stuff a vacation is well deserved. Please let us know what the doc says and insist on a Monday appointment when you call. What did the ER say it might be?

    Hi Margret
I have passed at least three lots of kidney stones and had blood in my urine on each occassion. I also lose a lot of protein thru my urine due to scarred and damaged kidney filters ,this often causes some blood in my urine. My gp scheduled me for all sorts of bladder ca tests and tests for urinary tract infections. They were clear but obviously are suspected in blood in urine... Ron.

thank you for your reply. yesterday I was calm, this morning woke up extremely early and nervous. doc did lab work on liver levels, coumadin, & protein. said all levels were good, but a lot of blood and bacteria. no bladder infection or urinary tract infection. I am calling the urologist tomorrow morning starting at 7:00 a.m. and explain that I need an appointment asap. he feels bad that we might have to postpone our trip, but we said we can always go in a month or two if necessary. just celebrated life a year later on friday night! so i think with a positive attitude he will be just fine. probably a kidney stone. Praying it is that simple. I am also calling the hospital and asking for a copy of his medical report from yesterday. i keep everything. thank you again for caring and your reply. take care & God Bless. Today, God has given us another day to enjoy life. margaret

thank you Ron for your reply. my husband had a kidney stone many years ago, we both remember the pain he had, he couldn't even walk. the bad thing now is that he has 4 herniated discs so any pain in the back we associate with that, that is why we didn't know he had colon cancer for 5 years. if he passed a stone or if it moved on friday it was masked by the back pain and also he took a pain pill. Thank you again for your reply. take care and God Bless. Margaret

    kidney stone?
could be? didn't realize he's had back pane from herniated discs and yes this could mask the symptoms of a kidney stone. i would have thought the ER would have performed x-rays etc..to see if a stone was present? i'm still slightly concerned that they even allowed your husband to leave the hospital and not admit him? get to the bottom of this quickly and possibly you may need to see a Nephrologist? a Nephrologist is a kidney specialist. it's very important to get to the bottom of this sooner rather then later. any condition that could be damaging to the kidneys stopped early will increases the chance that no long term damage will result. however if this problem is related to the kidneys and is left untreated/undiagnosed irreversable damage could be the consequence.

    thanks
I have already made up my mind to start calling at 7:00 the doc the er is sending us to. I already did a research on the doc. and he is ranked 6 out of 15 in our area. if i don't like him, i will find someone else. i was a little tiffed at the er, i can't believe that they wouldn't admit someone who had so much blood in the urine and is on 14 mg of coumadin a day. i thought they should atleast lower his coumadin pills until they find out what is wrong. Again, thanks and take care. margaret

    COUMADIN:
    Seek emergency

    COUMADIN:
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.
Overdose symptoms may include bruising, broken blood vessels under the skin, excessive bleeding from cuts or wounds, blood in the urine or stools, and heavy menstrual periods in women.

What You Need to Know About Coumadin:
take your medication at the same time each day to maintain a steady blood level
observe for any signs of bleeding, including black tarry, stools, bleeding gums, blood in urine

Thank you Diane, his coumadin levels are checked weekly, he cuts himself all the time and still barely bleeds. today is the day i call the urologist and i am also calling his family doctor to ask about maybe reducing the coumadin pills until we know what is going on. Again, thank you for your reply. God Bless. Margaret
