I used to be afraid of needles. I'd look away for injections, blood draws or IV starts. Never had Novacaine at the dentist because I'd rather face the drill than a needle. Then came breast cancer, lumpectomy, and brachytherapy radiation. I had a huge cavity and as a consequence, I couldn't have the Mammosite, SAVI, or Contura because they only go up to 10 centimeters. I had to have multi-catheters.

So today, when my doc was injecting a growth on my scalp with Lidocaine before she could remove it, she said, as they always do, "You'll feel a stick, then stinging." There was a stick, then some stinging. She asked, "Are you all right?" I said of course. She said, "You're so quiet. You must be tough." And I said... "I had 45 needles put through my right breast, then 45 catheters slid over them and capped off. I can do anything!"

What a perspective being a cancer survivor gives us, eh?
