Hi everybody my wife`s tumor in her R lung upper lobe has shrunk to 2.5 cm. The oncologist said he has no way to tell if it`s alive or if its scar tissue. She has 2 more big doses of chemo to go.Are there any tests to determine if the tumor is still malignant?.They did try surgery but were not able to remove it because of the location, the medium stienum and the Superior vena cava.We just had a scan and we are very happy that this thing has not spread. God Bless you all.

    No way to tell..
It is my understanding that unless they can get a piece of this and examine it under a microscope, it is not possible to say if it is benign or malignant. Scans can give some hints but cannot make a definitive diagnosis as far as I know. The good news is the tumor is smaller and as you say it has not spread. All good news. Connie.
