Wow....Stage IIIc diagnosed in 1987 and still going strong.

I was dx. stage IIIc in May 1987 when I was 41 years old. I had surgery, 6 months of first line treatment - Cisplatin, Cytoxan and Adriamycin. In December 1987 I had second look surgery which was common procedure. Many biopsies were taken and an IP port was put in. My gyn/onc could not see any disease but a few days later I found out I still had microscopic disease. I then received 6 months of IP Cisplatin ending in May 1988. I then went on oral Hexalen for 6 months to try and prevent a recurrence. That eneded in December 1988. I had a recurrence in March 1993. I received 12 treatments of Carboplatin ending in March 1994. I've been fine since then. I am now 64. Our boys were 9 and 14 when I was diagnosed. They are now 32 and 37 years old. My mission is to give hope to those going through what I have experienced.

    D....I should have been more specific. That wasn't my story I posted, but someone else who has fought back and, so far at least, won the battle.

    I have started searching out and posting some of the more inspiring success stories because sometimes we read about people on various forums from years ago, but never know what became of them. We all know that sometimes women die from Ovarian Cancer, but many times I think they just decide to get on with their lives.

    I did think that was the case as I have read this forum for 2 years now and followed your (and others) progress, since my own diagnosis June 08 (3c).
    This is a fantastic forum full of wonderful inspiring people. I do regularly read, but only occasionally join in as I am in Australia and on reverse timezones to you girls.
    I have personally gained much comfort and strength from reading of your experiences (good and bad), it helps to realise that most of the problems we encounter in this journey, is shared, and the sharing of knowlege and experience, is so important. It is good to know that just when you think you are losing your mind...
    ..someone else is (or already has!) too!! :))
    There is so much comfort in realising the experience is shared, and we are not alone, thanks to all you wonderful ladies here.

    Any stories about people
    Any stories about people whose first-line chemo didn't work but they are ok today would be appreciated since that seems to be what I'm going through.

    For Disney Nutt....
    Profile: I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in April 2004 through surgery for an ovarian cyst. Fortunately, my surgeon called in a gynecologic oncolgist in the midst of surgery, so I feel I have had excellent care since that time. I had five major surgeries within 4 years and the big old hernias are coming back again!


    Update: Will be 5 years soon since diagnosis. Have had multiple chemos and have never gone into remission. Do enjoy the periodic 2 month chemo vacations! Currently I'm on Avastin and cytoxan. Am hoping to live at least another 10 years! Why not!
