Update on pneumonia and drs visit??

It was not much of a drs visit, he was so backed up coming back from vacation, I never saw him we older patients were changed to a nurse practioner. The only thing she did was prescribe a codeine cough syrup told to finish Levaquin. Now I know the pneumonia will go away but what I wanted to speak to the dr about was the atelectasis and bronchiectasis. They scare me. She said that the infection should clear and maybe my lung would reabsorb the fluid. You get bronchiectasis from walking around too long with atelectasis and it is damage to your bronchioles in your lungs. That is what did not get answered. Sherri, you mentioned Jim has it right now, have you been told he has either of those other two, bronchiectasis and/or atelectasis? She did not address the fact that I have spells when I get so out of breath I can't walk across a flat floor. My hubby told her I am going backwards, losing weight and vomiting and having no breath at times just is crazy. It is my 5th day on Levaquin and I still have a low grade fever and cough a lot. My disappointment in not speaking to this dr whom I trust more than any other is still hard to take. I don't go back for a month and they don't do a CT scan till 2 months. I am considering seeing a lung specialist if I do not feel better next week. Sorry to vent but I am still po'd about the inability to talk to the dr himself. take care, prayers for all,

    Dr. Visit
I would call the Drs. office back and insist that you see him. Sometime a little "gentle" pressure will get you in to see him. You are not the normal run-of-the-mill patient and should get a little extra care. I changed GPs because mine seemed rushed or distracted or not really listening or had stories about other patients. He just didn't seem to be there for me. Yours should be there for you and not pawn you off onto someone who didn't listen.

I also found that an extra push or an extra tear works wonders when you want to get your way.

Good luck and I hope this all goes away soon.
    Jim

    I did assert myself
    Hi,
William and Loretta I responded to Loretta's email. I did assert myself enough to get the manager called over to speak to me. They told me he was booked up for the next month!! He is wonderful, U of MD trained and the kindest dr I have but think many more people want to see him. I am going to talk to my surgeon's coordinators and ask what they suggest. Meanwhile my big girl panties are on all the time with a nice giant hole burned in them from the HCL acid from my j tube hole burning thru Desitin and torturing me, 5 wks after the tube was removed. So, I got issues!!!! LOL!!! If I got more short of breath or my fever gets higher, than I will take myself to the ER. Thanks for everyone's replies and advice. take care, prayers for all.

Hoping for you to feel better
    Hi Donna,
Yes we sure do love you here. My gosh! I can not believe you are still having shortness of breath and coughing. I agree with you, do go to the lung specialist. Not even the ER, check into the lung specialists in your area. It is sad that a lot of the time these days we end up having to dx ourselves!
Good luck to you and prayers are being said daily. Hugs.

Sherri, thanks so much!! and everyone for their input
I could not get on site this am, kept getting overloaded message. I want to thank you for sharing what Jim has gone thru. I am feeling better today, my fever went down and I seem to be breathing better than yesterday. What I keep wondering is how long have they seen the atelectasis and bronchiectasis and did not mention it to me. I have been complaining of SOB spells for months now but got worse after the vomiting started. I have a pulse ox sitting down of 99-100 which is great but my breathing issues happen when I walk and so far no one has bothered to test it while walking and moving. So I am asking my surgeon's coordinator if she thinks it would be good to go to a lung dr. I appreciate every one's concern and input, I worked in the medical field for years doing transcription and medical assisting and I don't believe any dr walks on water so I can be a questioning type of patient for me or anyone in my family. It made me wonder why my fever started after 2 days of Levaquin and persisted but feel better now so that is what counts. Thanks again, this board is great for everyone, you all understand. Hope Jim is feeling better and thanks again for the input.take care, prayers always,
