how long after radiation for expander exchange

I was wondering how long people had to wait until they had their expanders removed and implants put in after radiation. My doctor just told me he likes to wait at least 9 months until he does the exchange to let everything heal well. He says if it is done sooner then problems can occur. It is hard to image having these expanders in for that long. Do you get use to them?

I had a lumpectomy, but,Bee718 said:expander exchange
My surgeon said to wait six weeks after radiation was over.
So, all in all, I had the expander in 12 weeks chemo, 6 weeks radiation . . . so about 4-5 months from surgery, all total.
But your doctor may feel very strongly about this.
I had a lumpectomy, but, wanted to wish you good luck. Many on here are and have gone thru exactly what you are and will post more information for you.
