A couple of things, Jim:
I'm up every 2 hours like clockwork as well. No matter what I've tried, I just can't stay down. I just go to the bathroom and come back to bed. I'm sure my kidneys were not what they were. As far back though as I can remember, I always got up a couple of times, even as a younger man. Maybe my bladder and kidneys never were what they should be, don't know.
You could ask your doctor about FLOMAX. It can help ease those symptoms and help you void your bladder more fully. I took it when I was doing radiation and it did help some. This might be of benefit to you.
For sleep, you can try LUNESTA 3mg. Those work pretty good too and even when you get up, you should be able to kick back out again, so it will help you there as well.

Welcome Jim
I am 6 months post surgery.Ascending colon removed and resection.I have finished 8 chemo treatments. I wake up and go the the 'washroom' 3-4 times nightly and pee what seems like gallons. I DO drink a lot of water so that might be the reason...but we really, really need that water. I take Ativan as needed to help me sleep. Works for me without the morning hangover feeling. Ambien and other like medications reverse on me. I'm an oddball:)
I'm glad you and your wife have found this support group. I think you will like us...I HOPE so anyway.
Best wishes.

sleeping pills
First off welcome to the board Jim good to have ya here.
I to was up and down all night. at first with the bathroom issues then just couldnt sleep soundly? The bathroom trips have slowed (I am 13 months out of surgery, whipple procedure along with resection and some other issues) for the most part still have some issues at night but not like clockwork anymore. I take a low dose of Ambien, and it works for me. I will still wake if I am cramping etc...but I sleep longer with less "interuptions" when I take it.
Sleep is very important in letting your body heal. I would definetly talk to the Doc about it.
hope this helps and you get the rest your body needs. Good luck to ya, and I hope this note finds ya smilin!

So, it appears that alot of cancer patients need sleep aids. Must be all the stress going on with us.

number 1 or number 2?
you know if your urinating that often this needs to be checked ASAP! it would be wise to get a urine and blood glucose test. however if this is bowell movement related try not eating so much before bedtime and bulk up the food----go with higher protein and complex carbohydrates...don't forget to make sure your getting enough fiber and water====very important!!! i'm still unsure exactly what your question pertains to but i hope i've helped somewhat?

I guess I didn't give the right info on my night sleping. The problem was BM's every couple hrs. Most of the time it was very little but enough to wake me up. I took Imodium-AD (2 pills) early in the day and it seemed to work, I slept all night and never woke up until 6:30AM Maybe just talking about it worked (I don't think so) This is week 5 after surgery. Liver surgery is set for May 3rd. I'm going to look like a tank rolled over my mid section Thanks for your tips Jim0
