Well, we're back home. PVE was Tuesday, lasted 3 hours. The time was pushed back so we stayed overnight. He had some pain about 2 am, nurse thought it may have been muscle spasm or blood clot? He seems to be better today. The Dr. said eat healthy, no alcohol for the next four weeks to help the liver. They blocked about 60% during the procedure. Any ideas what helps the liver? Foods, etc? Thanks so much.

Diet after PVEDevasted said:Thanks to you all!
Hey, once again, thanks so much!
Don't know what we would do without you all...
We're doing good, taking things one step at a time.
My husband David had that done a few months prior to his liver resection. He was told at MD Anderson by his nutritionist and his surgeon to be on a low fat high protein diet before and after PVE and the resection He had 75% of his liver removed and was encouraged to eat lean meats, chicken, fish, low fat cheeses, etc. To try to get about 100-120 grams of protein a day. Beans are a great source, too and an egg a day was a good choice. The liver needs protein to grow.
He was also told zero alcohol before and after surgery. Alcohol is processed in the liver and very tough on it. My husband had a diseased liver mainly due to two years of chemotherapy. But it's all worth it to have the resection. We learned today that his new liver remnant is growing very well one month after surgery.
Best of luck to your hubby and let me know if you have any questions. We were given lists of good choices for protein and I also googled a list for more suggestions. We also learned to read package nutritional information more carefully!
