Scan Shows "New' Nodule in Lung

My husband is a Esophageal Cancer survivor after 2 years. He had radiation - chemo - and 'the' major surgery done, and has been doing great since then, with no follow up treatment. He will always have eating issues, but he is doing well. His cancer had not spread to other organs. All his check ups has been very good, up until now.
This week he went to have his 4 mo. check up at Duke. They always do lab work and take a CAT Scan. This time, the CAT Scan showed a 'new' nodule in his lung. (He has never smoked!) But his cancer doctor was not concerned at all, but said they would
keep an eye on it. (It's 3 cm.)
As his wife, I am extremely worried! Why wouldn't they do more testing immediately, to see whether this nodule is cancerous or not? I'm in the dark and don't understand how all this works.
Please, IF you know anything about this, I would appreciate your help! Thank you!

Hi Joy,
scary news I am sure. I don't know much about this either---but could they biopsy it? or is it too deep with in the body? If they knew what it was then they could treat it if needed. My dad goes to Duke also---curious if we have any of the same doctors...I sent you a personal message on this site.

Hi Joy!
Did the doctor say
Hi Joy!
Did the doctor say it's definitely a nodule? They may be watching it to see if it's maybe infection and will go away on its own or it could possibly be a shadow.
My grandfather is a lung cancer survivor and he just went through this early this year. His doctor saw something on his yearly scan but felt it better to wait a month or two and check it again. Sure enough, 6 weeks later it was gone.
Hugs, I hope that the waiting gets easier. You could call the doctor and see if he thinks it could be something that will disappear.
Take care,
Amy0
