PSA 2 weeks after surgery
As part of a physical check up after surgery, my PCP asked for the PSA test just two weeks after surgery and the result came at 0.21. I did not know that he ordered this test since the computers were down at the time and the nurse just wrote the code of the test. Otherwise, I would not havve agreed. Talking about adding unecessary stress.

I would not stress one bit with the test only being two weeks after...my surgeon recomends at least 6 weeks from surgery because the reading can be false with some of the prostate antigen still clearing out of the body from the surgery.

Randy is right on and so are you with the "added stress".. I had my first PSA on week 4 becasue I am part of a study for Northwestern but my URO does a 6 week and Walsh says 8-12 week are more reliable...2 week never heard that from anyone...hope it is just a false reading cuase we have enough stree in our lifes without oversights from our docs0 -

Thanks Randy and BD,
I also hope that it is a false reading. I have an appointment with the surgeon on April 27, 6 weeks after the surgery. On that day,I will have my first real post op. PSA test. I will let you know.

I HAD A PSA TEST THREE WEEKS AFTER SURGERY AND IT WAS 0.08. THE DR. SAID I WOULD NEED ONE AT 6 WEEKS TO GIVE TIME FOR THE BLOOD TO GET RID OF THE PSA. TOOK ANOTHER PSA TEST AT 6 WEEKS AND THE READING WAS UNDETECTABLE !!! SO GIVE IT TIME. YOUR READING SHOULD COME DOWN.0 -

Hang in there
zakpaga,
Hang in there and don't stress right now. As you can see from all comments in this forum PSA does get better post surgery. I had RP March 09 (preop PSA 22) and I forget when uro did first PSA test after surgery, but October 09 PSA was 0.008 YAHOO!!
My thoughts are with you. May God bless you.
