JaDot,
just wondering, how old were you at diagnosis? I have a 25 year old daughter diagnosed with signet cell tumor on Feb. 9. She had surgery, hospitalized 8 days, went back to work in 3 weeks and is tolerating the chemo well. Sounds like the same plan of attack you used. Her oncologist is very negative, so it seems. But her cea level has been dropping so she says the chemo is working. Has everything been smooth sailing since for you? Wondering what to expect! thanks!0 -

I was 39 when diagnosed. I have a rare form of HNPCC, which shows up in young, otherwise healthy individuals. Patient usually are young, have multiple large tumors, right sided, meaning in the ascending colon. Luckily I was stage II, which gave me much hope. Had 8 rounds of folfox and lots more rounds of 5FU. Reading stuff about signet ring cell tumors scared the day lights out of me too initially, but then I realized that I just had to put one foot in front of another and live one day at a time. Believe that you will beat it, juice, become vegetarian, exercise, read book, research the disease, and most of all, stay positive. I beat it and so can your daughter.
Make sure your daughter is checked for HNPCC because it also predisposes women to a number of other cancers - ovarian and uterine. Knowledge is power, prevention often time is cure, and like Lance said, attitude is everything.
I've been clean for 4 years now.
Best of luck to you!
