Atypical FNA Results

I have had 2 thyroid nodules followed by ultrasound for almost 10 years. Last week on ultrasound, one of the nodules has almost tripled in size. My TSH has always been normal.
I had a FNA last week. I will be speaking with my endocrinologist when she is back in the office later this week. In the meantime, I am able to access test results through the pt record system where I get my care. The findings of the FNA were atypical. Do these reults typically mean I will need to have at least the affected thyroid lobe removed?
Thank you
Mary
