Glad I started the thread!chenheart said:LOL ! Aren't you sorry you
LOL ! Aren't you sorry you even asked?! :-) We all pretty much do what we want to do anyway, don't we? Somehow I have a feeling you are not swayed toward the non-tanning side of the table, and you probably never were!
Suddenly I have the feeling that we are much like the Democrats and Rebulicans at the table last Thursday on the health reform summit~ minds were already made up beforehand there too!
Healthy, happy hugs~ tan or pale!

No! It was great to see how everyone feels. I will probably tan. Noone will sway me away from it. I just was curious as to how everyone felt after having rads. If they covered that part, or didn't, or whatever. We are all our own person and need to live our lives the way we want to. Differences are great I think!
Happy tanning or not to all!

My radiologist said that I should avoid sun on the radiated skin for 2 years. Not a problem for me as I have been avoiding the sun for years. Leather is for purses not faces and now that I'm 59 I am glad I have not been a lifelong tanner. I get great results from Tan Towels. I'm leaving on the 12th for Atlantis in the Bahamas. I'll be the one under the umbrella.

As it happens, I had a followup appointment with my rads oncologist this afternoon (I'm 2 months out of rads), and HE made a point of bringing up how important it is to wear sunscreen on the treatment area -- even under clothes -- if I'm going to be out in the sun for a long time, for at least the first year.
(Was he in his office reading this message board before my appointment, I wonder...? :-)
Even though I always wear a bra, he said that a bra + a t-shirt aren't enough sun protection for long periods of time, because the skin in the treatment field is still recovering.

I am completely agree with your post. I guess we are still having hunger for adventure. I still prefer get my tan by having 30 min regular walk and swimming in the outdoor pool with Sunscreen on.0 -
Doubt any doctor would advise tanning butTraciInLA said:And now, a word from my rads oncologist

I think it would be rare to find any doctor that would ok our exposing our skin to the sun. But, the doctor's don't live our lives, they just advise us. I think using a sunscreen if in the sun is the best way to go. My doctors would always say no, as I wrote above. But, they aren't me. Everyone should just choose what they want and if it is to tan, then go for it, if it isn't, then that is best for them.
