Mom's Lung Cancer is back

Mom had Lung Cancer 03/06 and a piece of her right lung was removed. There was no need for chemo or radiation and all was well.
After a recent chest x-ray another was requested and then a ct scan and then a bronchoscopy and finally a needle biopsy which we found out this past Monday was cancer.
What scares me after our meeting today with her oncologist is it is the same cancer from 4 years ago and it is non small cell which according to this site as a 49% 5 yr survival rate!
We are going to get a pet of the body and mri of the head to see if it is anywhere else and follow up with oncologist in 2 weeks which might even be her first chemo and while I know she is freakin out I need to vent somewhere so I can be strong for her.
I am not ready to lose my best friend!

I'm really sorry to hear the
I'm really sorry to hear the cancer has returned. That's great that she's been in remission so long though! Feel absolutely free to vent here. I just joined myself, but I'm more than willing to listen! I know how it feels to be scared like this. Stay strong! That's all you can do, and she needs you!0 -
Mom Has Cancer
I'm so sorry to hear that your Mom has lung cancer or that it's back! It's very traumatic to hear that a loved one has cancer of any kind. I too, have renal cell carcinoma that spread to my lymph nodes and lungs. I was originally on a clinical trail with UC Davis in Sacramento, CA with the drug pazopanib. That drug caused my liver enzymes to elevate to unacceptable levels. Now, my oncologist has me on Sutent, four weeks on, two off. I'm on my third week of cycle one.
Tell your mom to fight! God bless all.

Novalis TX
I was diagnosed with Stage III non-small cell carcinoma in the left lung in March 2008. I've been through many rounds of chemo with five different drugs, 40 treatments of IMRT radiation and the tumor was still there and growing. I saw a radiation oncologist who was in the process of installing a new type of radiation machine called Novalis TX. I had five hour-long radiosurgery treatments over a five day period and the tumor is now gone. He said they are having terrific results with this new equipment so you may want to do some research to see if a machine is anywhere near you. I had to be in a body cast (scary) during the actual treatment because the beams are so intense that no movement can take place, and I fixed that by taking a sedative. I had very few side effects from the treatments. I've only had one PET scan since the tumor went away, but have been told they could zap me again if it comes back. This machine produced amazing results, and the doc said they have been having a 98% success rate since the machine was installed in July 2009. Novalis TX can also can be used to treat multiple tumors, each one is treated in succession.
Best of luck to you....0
