Treatment for nosebleeds
PEOPLE’S PHARMACY: Unique cure for nosebleeds

Q: I learned a procedure to stop nosebleeds. Determine which nostril is bleeding, remove the shoe from the opposite foot and, with the heel of your hand, give two good thumps to the heel of that bare foot. I have used this tactic many times, in the gym, on field trips, at Little League and even on my wife sitting in the car. My question is, Why does this work?
A: We wish we could tell you. It makes about as much sense to us as dropping keys down the back of the neck to stop a nosebleed. Many readers have shared success stories with that technique. Even though we can’t explain either approach, it will be obvious within seconds whether it has worked.

you can take a small piece of paper towel and roll it up about the size of a small tootie roll and place it up in your upper lip between the lip and gum hold it there for just a min or so and it will stop this works used it many times at the pool on nose bleeds...0 -

Weird!
Hi Diane,
Thanks for sharing that! As I get ready to go back on chemo, I imagine the nosebleeds will start again. This was a big problem for me before- was even thinking about getting the inside of my right nostril cauderized. I'll try to remember this and see if it works! If it really does work, my idea of why it works is that it is related to accupressure points. There are certain parts of the hands and feet that are related to specific body functions. I remember when I was in labor giving birth, the nurse kept massaging the upper arch of my foot just behind the ball of my foot. It was supposed to help ease the back labor I had been experiencing. There are certain areas they pinpoint during acupuncture for digestive function. It did seem to help at the time, so I won't doubt that there's a spot on the heel to massage (or hit) that could help with nosebleeds!
