Kidney Blockage

Has anyone had surgery to remove a blockage in the kidneys or perhaps the tubes leading to the kidneys? My sister is now being operated on to remove a blockage in her kidneys. I am scared she won't survive this. She is barely recovering from her second colon resection 2/5, very weak, depressed, alot of pain and loss of appetite. The second surgery was supposed to be liver resection but they found too much cancer when they operated and noticed the second blockage then.

    Pat had surgery because of problems with those tubes. There was a number of threads just recently about this. I don't remember his or his wife's exact signature tho. Louann has his Caring Bridge info. Maybe she can help you.

    Kidney Cancer Side of the Board?
    Not to sure if there are many of us on this side of the board that has done this, Marie. I believe Kapper48 had some type of surgery for his kidney/bladder - but he is out from surgery and not on the board right now.

    I would check out the Kidney Cancer side of the board to see if you can get any info there.

    Of course, if someone has done this, I'm sure they will come along shortly.

    Me again, raising my hand!
    A PET done in October showed the ureter from my right kidney was blocked. It's not surprising considering all the scarring from my surgery in May with all the abcesses I had. I had a stent placed right after Christmas, with dilation of the kinked spot to see if that would remedy the problem. The urologist confirmed that it does appear to be scar tissue outside the ureter, and didn't think the dilation would prove to provide any permanent relief. We removed the stent a month later, to see if it had opened up the ureter and have recently seen that the blockage remains. I will be scheduled shortly to have a permanent stent placed (although permanent is a relative term, they actually will be replacing it every 6-9 months). The stent placement is a breeze, real quick to recover from and I didn't have any issues with it; no pain, and the bleeding stopped after a week and wasn't real heavy. The doc says this time it won't bleed even that much because we won't be doing any of the dilation stuff, just placing the stent and out. Note, the kidney begins to shut down when it can't empty, and I am left with 25% function in that kidney; but 25% is better than none, if I have to go back on chemo!
