Same symptoms as pre surgery! HELP
I have very bad hemorrhoids right now but am still very scared.
My stomach appears to be full of air and I have very painful gas that is difficult to pass. My abdomen rumbles soooooooo loudly.
My Stage III surgery was Jan. 7, 2009 and 18 inches of colon was removed (Sigmoid).
I'm so very scared. I left a message at the surgeon's office to see if they can rush the colonoscopy!

Take a deep breath
and then when calmed down call your onc and tell him/her what is happening and I'll bet that they can get you a rushed colonoscopy.
I know you are scared. No need to lie and say I wouldn't be, because I would. But the chances are good that it is the hemorrhoids bleeding out.
Hoping for the best for you.

I had no blood or bleeding
I had no blood or bleeding with my tumor, but had real indigestion type symptoms with loud, loud bowel sounds. FOB was negative. Actually, I had an obstruction because I'd used an anti diarrhea med and things got clogged up on the other side of the tumor.
I left a message for the surgeon's nurse. He's a real 'go getter' and a lovely man. I felt he'd be the fastest acting guy....
Please say a prayer for me.0 -

fears
Hi Diane,
I had bright red blood before my colonoscopy in October. The colonoscopy found that I no sign of cancer, and that I did have internal hemorhoids as well as an area of blood vessels close to the internal surface from radiation damage that was bleeding. So, the hemorhoids and anal fissures can definitely cause bleeding.
I know that the worry and risk is there, however, so I'm not discounting your worries. Hopefully, for your own peace of mind, they will be able to do the colonoscopy sooner, and that all will show negative for cancer. Thinking of and praying for you, Diane.

The surgeon's nurse is going
The surgeon's nurse is going to talk to him and call me back. He's off today but was coming in for an office meeting. She said it sounds like a bowel obstruction.
Thank you for the prayers. I'll let you know what happens.

Just said a prayer for you! I am leaning towards the bleeding being from the hemorhoids too. Or like Lisa said...anal fissures. I just went thru that same thing last month and thats what mine was. I freaked tho and went to the ER. I was too scared to wait but it was beginning of the week-end and I could not get in for an appt. until that Monday afternoon. No way was I waiting!!! You take care and let us know as soon as you can.

Diane,
If you aren't able to get the colonoscopy moved up to tomorrow or Friday at the very latest, I believe I'd also go into ER tonight or tomorrow. I'm wondering though, if you were to go into ER, would they make you go through any bowel prep first... does anyone else have experience with this? I'm just wondering if, without the bowel prep, if they'd be able to see on the ultrasound or CT if there is a blockage or not. Would a full colon interfere with what they could see/do for you in ER? Maybe there's a way they can speed up the prep and do a bowel evacuation, suction, or something like that.
Even if this is the case, if the pain persists and you can't get in for the colonoscopy, I don't think I'd wait. Just wondering if you should start any bowel prep prior to going in. Hopefully someone else with experience going in to ER for a blockage/possible blockage can shed some light on this.
Take care- still praying-

Surgeon sent me
Well, I went in and everyone was sure it was an obstruction but all x-rays showed no problems. He said bowel looked perfectly normal. I'd not had any solid foods for over 24 hours... He did say the tests wouldn't take the place of a colonoscopy and it might be diverticulosis. He really thinks it's my diet and the huge amounts of greens I've been eating and the hemorrhoids. He was not all concern with the spot of blood. Said to use otc for the roids. The pain in my side could be from straining or lifting a large box of Hispanic Bibles and carrying them to the car for the free medical clinic.
The gal who did my x-rays has ulcerative colitis and her husband had cc 6 years ago that had grown thru the wall and entwined itself around his nodes. He's cured but did have a new polyp removed that could have become cancer later.
Also the gal said a gastro who comes to my tiny town is excellent and doesn't have huge waiting periods, Going to call him to schedule a visit and colonoscopy (first since surgery)
Thanks guys.0 -

Diane,
I'm glad you got in and that you don't have a blockage after all! I'm sure you are breathing many sighs of relief and prayers of thanks today.
I feel such relief for you, too!
Hope you can get the colonoscopy scheduled soon, but it sounds like all is well.
Maybe you need to temporarily cut back on the large number of greens and/or even try taking some Beano. Also, there are probiotics that are specifically geared at cutting down gas production in the bowel. They sell them at Walmart in the supplement area.
Have a good day & hugs to you,
